So, I've been playing every day nearly since September 2014 and I'm relatively up to snuff with this game.
I'm now bored enough with it to ask some questions.
First, I've got a a raid gear item, let's call it Willbreaker's Resolve for the sake of argument.
At the end of a recent raid, I over hear two other teammates talking about the stats on their latest drop and if it was "better" than the one they already had. I said, huh? WTF R U talking about? They said things like Intellect, Discipline and Strength.
Naturally, I looked at mine and it's got something like Discipline 64 and Strength 63. So?
Now then, I waited until Tuesday's reset and ran the raid again 3x, to test these items and see what I could get.
Theoretically, let's say I got a Willbreaker's Resolve now with Strength 104 and no other stat.
To clarify: I have
Willbreaker's Resolve with Discipline 64 and Strength 63
Willbreaker's Resolve with Strength 104
Long story short, which is better and why? Leveled up both, ran some bounties, raids, and strikes with each, I can't tell a difference.
As a Titan, I would imagine the Strength stat to matter more so than INT and DIS, but really? Does it matter? If so, how so? Please explain stats and their importance... is it worth redoing raids to "better" your stats? Why?
Thanks,
Sceaduo360, Will Wipe the Raid

Edited by InvictusManneo: 3/19/2015 3:13:46 AMStrength, intellect and Intelligence all affect how fast you regain your super, grenade, and melee. Depending on which one of these you want first, one piece of gear could possibly be better than the other, just depends on the person

Idk where to begin....not being a dick but you've been playing since September 2014 when game came out and you don't know what Intellect Discipline and Strength do? You have never looked at your armor when you got it through out the game, and noticed the + whatever number is next to 1 or 2 of those abbreviations in the box underneath the description? They are a very fundamental part of the game man. They represent the cooldown time of your abilities, the higher the number, the more it adds to shorten the cooldown time of them so you can use them again. Intellect is super cooldown, discipline is grenade cooldown, and strength is melee cooldown. All of your armor excluding your class item has 1 to 2 of those abilities on it (they are random except for exotic armor, CE raid specific perk/abilities, IB gear that is bought, and VoG armor). In your character menu next to your armor are symbols with numbers next to them, if you move cursor over them it tells you if it is Intellect Strength and Discipline and and the total number of cool down "points" you have of each (which are also shown as a percentage up to your 100 percent). The closer to your 100 percent thr faster that ability meter regens so you can use it again.

1 ReplyUnless I am using my defender, I prefer discipline and intellect. This is the breakdown. Discipline: 0% 1 minute cool down, 100% 27 second cooldown Strength: 0% 1 minute and 9 seconds, 100% 31 seconds Intellect: 0% 5 minutes 30 seconds, 100% 3 minutes and 55 seconds (This is assuming you kill no enemies) As intellect increases, the amount you get per kill also increases and reduces the cool down even more. From 0 - 100% you gain about 2 times more per kill. Hope that helps.

1 ReplySTR, INT, DIS all reduce the cooldowns of your special attacks. INT - Super cooldown. DIS - Grenade cooldown. STR - Special Melee cooldown. Depending on what abilities you use most, you can select armours and weapons that reduce the cooldown time of those particular abilities. Does this make more sense now?

Yes, they do matter, as people stated below. BUT... I think most of us will agree that armor abilities trump the actual statistics. For me, I don't care what he stats are -- I'm looking overall light level (if it's an upgrade), and THEN I look at what cool perks I'll get. That's my sole decision tree. ...not on a blonde. Brunettes have strength. Redheads have intelligence. Jet black hair with razor-sharp straight bangs that look like they were cut with a laser...DISCIPLINE. Rrrrrrrowwwwwrrrrr...
-
Yeah it matters, but 271=100% Try not to have more than 271 on a single attribute
-
My blink strike charges in 3 seconds. Think I'm lying? 1v1 melee battle me m80.
-
1 Replythe better question should be does Armor, Recovery, Agility matter? sure you can see Agility effect you but what about armor and recovery? or even you defense rating?
-
It really just depends on your play and what the activity calls for? For my hunter on CE I was want my blink strike to work a lot so I have my strength at 100% (I get strength and discipline mixed up so i might be wrong) but for a warlock I want my intellect highs so its all about preference
-
On my warlock I go with intellect discipline so I can use my super and grenades a lot

Edited by TheArtist: 3/19/2015 1:52:22 PMDepends on your playstyle. In PvE play, I priortize Intellect and Discipline because I use LOTS of grenades and Supers if I'm not raiding. In PvP play I prioritize Strenght and Intellect. A close-quarters Sunsinger build is a TANK (tore through an entire fireteam like a Blade dancer with Radiant Melee attacks in an IB match last night). Grenades are only useful for controlling movement and softening up campers in the Crucible.

Strength = Melee Cooldown Discipline = Grenade Cooldown Intellect = Super Cooldown The more you have, the less you wait.
-
1 ReplyCheck out my titans. I much prefer high intellect and discipline on titans. On my hunter, I find intellect and strength most necessary
-
Oxygen, water, food... DO they matter? Story at eleven.
-
Lol I'm surprised people still ask this question, Max each one and play in the crucible you'll definitely know if they matter.
-
100% : Charges your ability TWICE as fast as it usually would. To put in actual values, let's say You're standing around doing nothing, it'll take : 5 minutes to charge your ability if you have 0% on your armour. 2,5 minutes If you have it at 100%.

3 RepliesYES, yes it does matter ...although imo it matters more in PvP than it does in PvP, but it matters nonetheless see, when i started playing PvP i would equip my "BEST" gear, i.e. highest light level, little did i know i couldn't possibly be more mistaken. of course i kept failing again and again, never getting enough kills, hardly ever had my super up,...i thought i was just THAT bad, but luckily for me, it was only a part of the problem then i realized the Gear actually has perks that COULD be useful let's take faster reload - see, i am a handcannon guy, so the other day i took a stopwatch and did an experiment. i equipped my Max Level gear, fired my Hawkmoon and reloaded and then did this again 19x more times while measuring how long it took and came to conclusion it was something around 3.5seconds (i don't remember exactly, but i believe i am close) then, i've equipped a Vendor gear with lower light level, but Fast Reload for Handcannons and did exactly the same thing, again, 20x. i was rather surprised when i realized it reloads in 2.5seconds, which is faster by roughly 30% ...once i realized this, i went further onto the stats, i know how i play and since i main Gunslinger in PvP, i knew exactly what i needed - MOAR Tripmine Grenades and MOAR Golden Gun. now, this one is much harder to measure, since it's not charged based on your perks alone, the KILLS is what you need more then stats, however - when i had my Max.Light gear equipped, averaging say 10 kills per match (i know, not impressive, however for this example it will be more than you might think), i noticed i could barely get my super charged once per match, ONCE so, i've changed my gear to one that has 100% on Intellect, and to my big surprise i charged my Super roughly twice as fast, so with the same amou nt of kills i would have it charged TWICE per match,....the other thing to notice tho is, that the more Super means (usually) more kills, and more kills mean again more Super ;) ...i am planning on testing this in PvE with a stopwatch again, but like i said, i don't think it will have much of a value for PvP, since the kills is what plays the biggest role when charging your super there TL;DR - the stats on your armor not only do matter, but they actually affect your gameplay (especially in PvP) in a significant way
-
Depends on your play style. What do you want to charge faster. Super, grenades or melee.
-
Depends. On my Hunter, which is mainly a crucible class, I have maxed discipline and intellect because having strength on a Hunter is plain stupid. Warlock depends on the gear. Usually disciple and intellect My titan is balanced with 75% each.
-
Strength increases how often you can use your mele as it fastens the cool down discipline makes the grenades cooldown a lot quicker and the intellect makes it so your super fills up quicker just to put it simply
-
I prefer my Lock to not racka disciprine so I keep that to at least 80%. Intellect and Strength I try to keep some in as well.
-
7 RepliesEquip gear with ONLY strength or discipline, but not both. So equip a full strength build with 0 in discipline, or vice versa. Then use your Melee and grenade abilities back to back, and watch the difference in how fast the two charge back up, you'll see a clear difference.
-
When I'm playing sunsinger I have Intellect and discipline both on 80%+, for voidwalker my Int is maxed out, working on gear to fit the mix there.,
-
For me, the only class that I want to have strength on is the warlock
