Weasel Error Kills Internet.

So I thought I was crazy until a few days ago, when one of my raiding team confirmed that he experiences exactly the same thing. How widespread is this problem? What the -blam!- is even going on? The implications, from my layman's perspective, are equal parts perplexing and unsettling. Here's what's been going on for me since about the time 1.1.1 was released: Pretty much once a day, every day, I get kicked off of the Destiny servers, and am given the so-called 'weasel error'. No big deal, everyone and their mother has gotten this at least once. But what happens immediately afterwards is much more unnerving: 1. The wireless internet connection to my XBOne is completely cut off. I'm disconnected from my home wifi network completely, despite the fact that my wifi signal continues to function perfectly on all other devices. 2. I attempt to reconnect to my wifi signal on my XBOne manually (my wifi network still appears in the list at this point, although the console no longer automatically connects to it, as it normally would). I am prompted to enter the password for my wifi network. 3. I enter the password for my wifi network. Password is rejected. 4. I re-enter the password for my wifi network, being extra careful to use the proper case and punctuation. Password is rejected. 5. Repeat step 4 again several times. Give up. 6. Perform a hard reset my XBOne (hold down power button for several seconds until the console powers off completely, then power up the system again after waiting several seconds). 7. XBOne loads up, automatically connects to my wifi network, everything is exactly the way it should be. 8. Skip to the next day. Repeat the previous 7 steps, ad infinitum. Until I happened to mention this issue during a recent raid, I was pretty sure it was either something wrong with my XBox itself, or it was something having to do with XBox's most recent update, or a number of other things. Honestly, I was guessing. But to hear that some other guy is having the exact same issue, makes me think that others are experiencing the same thing. Seriously, what the actual -blam!-. Somebody smack me with some knowledge, please. UPDATE: Wow there are a lot of you. Wasn't expecting it to be this widespread. Still seems like there's some debate over whether it's an XBox problem, or a Destiny problem (as in, did the Weasel error/Destiny cause the internet to stop working on the XB1, or did the internet stop working on the XB1, causing the Weasel error?)... to which I would say, why haven't I experienced this with any other XB1 online multiplayer games? Why do I get this exact string of issues (loss of XB1 internet connection, followed by it refusing to accept the CORRECT wifi password) consistently, and ONLY when I'm playing Destiny? I mean, it's possible it's the XB1, but it seems like an awful lot of coincidence. Anyway, it sucks regardless. One thing that seems to work for people is foregoing wifi entirely, and 'hard-wiring' the XB1 with an Ethernet cable. If you've found another solution, please let us know! Just For Fun: Here's a list of errors people have reported! Baboon, Weasel, Elk, Centipede, Beaver, Cattle, Coconut, Oyster, Wasp, Beetle, Hare, Canary, Banjo, Chimpanzee, Cockatiel, Hawk, Marionberry, Vulture, Quail, Bass, Sheep, Nightingale, Drum, Caterpillar, Flatworm, Leopard... and it just goes on from there....

  • I have the exact same thing and it's not Xbox cuz no other game does this and my internet never has a problem at the time on any other device and it also doesn't accept my password for like 20 tries. Very odd

  • I noticed a recurring reference in this. Xbone/XB1/XBox mentioned a lot, could be the problem.

  • I got weasel error code the last round of the 7th game for flawless on trials I got a loss even tho my team pulled out the win. I was then able to reconnect and finish my passage but I didn't get to go to the lighthouse :(

  • Yep, I get weaseled about every 10 minutes when playing anything. I can hang in orbit for a while but Lord forbid I should play the game. I was kicked out of the arena boss fight 3 times. You can only join when everyone dies. After the third time I told my buddy to finish without me. This is one of the biggest reasons I will not get the expansion. There's no guarantee I'll get a fair shake at the new challenges.

  • This had been happening to me starting only yesterday! I am getting weasel error code and having my xbox disconnected from live. I seriously am getting weasel after 5 minutes of being in game then I have to restart and it happens again. So far I've had the error about 20 times just trying to play iron banner. Every other game works fine, 100% signal on WiFi. I cannot run a network cable as modem is 2 rooms away and would have to feed through roof with 30m cable. -blam!-ing fix this error bungie! Anyone had luck fixing it? Cleared Mac address, put xbox on DMz, did port forward also, tried many dns servers, reset modem, re installed destiny, cleared all xbox cache data.

    The weasel attack is the worst. I experience the exact same list of steps as the op. I am using power save mode not instant on. I also had my ISP replace everything and run at 50mbs DL while playing with less than 1% packet loss Alberta Canada Most recent error occurred while in the tower adding an Eris Bounty clicking accept.

  • It is probably something to do with the way destiny steams content - the same way as bit-torrents. Your router or ISP may be flagging the connection as bit-torrent or virus activity so cuts the connection. Try putting your console in a DMZ on your router, or set it as a "game" connection.

  • Yea the weasel error kills your wireless connection. Iam going wired as soon as possible. And its only started doing it after this latest update for me at least. Bungie really needs to fix this

  • This happens to me at least once a day on xbox one. I have to do a hard reset on the console and modem to get back in game. I thought it was my Internet provider then realized it only happens when playing Destiny.

  • I keep getting this as well. Every time, I have to do a hard reset of my Xbox. I know if others who have the exact same problem, and I've just posted on another forum to see my if it affects others as well. I've never had a network issue like this playing any other game so I can only assume it's caused by Destiny. For a game to bring down network connectivity of the whole console seems pretty serious to me, but I've yet to see a Bungie employee comment on it.

  • Im a ps4 destiny player, and since the last update i cant play anymore, weasel error code, caterpillar, anteater, etc. I alredy did everything trying to fix this... Other games are working perfect online... Just destiny for some strange reason isnt working anymore

  • It's crazy that this issue even exists. I have a serious addiction to this game and because of this problem, i've stopped playing so much. I've been concentrating on Battlefield now and i don't know if Bungie even cares. Have they even acknowledged this problem?

  • It's been happening to me for a couple months now. It doesn't happen every day except during iron banner, then it happens multiple times during the day when I am doing matches.

    Not just the xbox one! I have the 360 and I get it all the time! Of course Bungie blames it on you, but not one other online game I play kicks me off! I'm FREAKIN' tired of these stupid code words . It doesn't matter what mode I'm playin'; crucible, strike or just plain doing bounties. Maybe bungis should put more time in on fixing their servers, and less time on code words and blaming us!! Maybe their is a class action lawsuit that would fix this problem!!

  • I get this like every other day. I always just hard reset. I've never tried testing connection. It's so annoying in Iron Banner, especially when I'm winning.

  • Happens to me at least once a day recently but only when I'm doing amazing in crucible or at least winning. No joke I was 13 kills and zero deaths on anomaly the other day and BAM! Screw your and restart your XBone. I have noticed this is a recent problem and never happened before or with other games.

    • I've been playing battlefield the past few days and hop back on destiny today only to get weasel 5 mins into my first iron banner game, restarted my Xbox and was weaseled my second game. Decided to go back on battlefield for 3 more hours with no problem. In the last 4 days I haven't had issues with battlefield but I had 2-3 weasel errors on destiny daily. I can't stand it and it's getting on my last nerve

    • I got this error just the other day, and I seemed to be having Internet problems since then. It looks like my xbox isn't the only broken one out there.

      Holy shit. I'm not the only one! The exact same thing happens to me about 5 times a week. Sometimes after my password is rejected 5 or 6 times, it magically works but most of the time I have to perform a reset. Every time I get weasled and can't connect to xbox live, I'll jump on my laptop and what do you know? The -blam!-ing Internet totally works as it should. I was beginning to think my xbone was taking a crap on me. I guess not.
