Snarling viciously, Tartarus pivoted his feet and leaned his shoulder downwards. Moving faster than his bulk would suggest he was capable of, he slammed into the Elite and sent him crashing into one of large structures that were littered about in the chamber. Following through, he used his forward momentum, charged the hammer, and thrust it towards the fallen Elite. The Arbiter felt the distortion the energy peeling off Tartarus’ hammer a moment before it discharged. Grasping a human firing weapon in his left hand he pushed off the ground and threw himself to the right, saving himself from being slammed into the stone monument when the influx of energy impacted. Shaking the cobwebs from his head, the Arbiter grabbed his bearings and slowly regarded the leader of the Brutes. That hammer Tartarus touted was powerful enough to not only send him flying across the chamber with one good hit, but it was also emitting a shield that protected the Brute from harm. The Arbiter was confident he could defeat Tartarus simply by outsmarting him, but that would take time, something he did not have much of. The Holy Ring was almost ready to fire, which would mean the deaths of every single organism capable of sustaining the parasite. There would be no time for outsmarting Tartarus once that happened. The Arbiter caught sight of several Elites preparing to jump onto the structure that held Tartarus and himself. The others that had faced Tartarus already had been beaten down by the Brutes’ hammer, a fate he did not wish to see bestowed upon anyone else. “Hold your positions!” the Arbiter bellowed in his native tongue. The Elites stopped their charge and stared down at the Arbiter in confusion. Satisfied that they would not join the battle, the Arbiter turned his gaze on the human soldier, the one that had piloted the Scarab. He held a Jackal Rifle in his hands. The weapon was powerful enough to pierce any shielding ever created, but it required a steady hand and a light touch. “Human, do you know how to use that gun?” the Arbiter shouted at Sergeant Johnson. Despite the situation, Johnson felt a smirk light up his face. “Let me tell you something Mr. Arbiter,” he said sarcastically, “there isn’t a weapon known to mankind that I don’t know how to shoot. I’ve hit the wings off Drones with this little number in my sleep!” The Arbiter returned his gaze to Tartarus, who was preparing to charge once again. “Then show me.” Tartarus shouted once again as he rushed towards the Arbiter. Before either could comprehend what was happening, three plasma shots raced by, slamming into Tartarus’ chest. The white shield that had once covered his body faded, and the Arbiter’s brain kicked into gear. The Brute had yet to stop his charge, and was within a few feet from the Arbiter when he swung. Ducking swiftly, the Arbiter avoided the hammer, brought the human pump-handled weapon to bear, and waited for Tartarus to close the gap between them. Bringing the shotgun up, he pressed it against the Brute’s thick chest and fired. Brutes were known for their muscle density. There had even been reports that some Brutes had survived after being hit by a human land-roving vehicle at speeds that would render all other species incapacitated. None of that mattered, for the one weapon that the humans continued to use with dominance against the Covenant in close quarter fighting held up to its reputation. Two buck-shot rounds entered the Brute’s chest cavity and promptly made a mess before exiting out its backside. Tartarus felt his grip weaken on his hammer, and dropped it as he fell forward. Before he could collapse on top of the Arbiter, the Elite fell onto his back and brought his legs up, kicking the Brute up and over himself to land roughly, and several feet away. Tartarus managed a strangled curse before he felt the light begin to fade and finally disappear altogether. The Arbiter slowly got off the ground, his legs burning from the exertion of lifting Tartarus. He leaned against one of the tall structures in an attempt to catch his breath. It was a moment before he remembered that he had killed Tartarus for a reason, a big reason. Snapping his gaze to the collecting energy in the center of the chamber, the Arbiter saw the female human leap down upon the firing mechanism and remove the Icon. A sigh of relief escaped him, until he felt the control room begin to tremble. ‘Were we too late?’ The thought resonated through the Arbiter’s mind when the chamber began to shake violently, throwing him off his feet. As quickly as it came, the disturbance left, leaving only silence inside the control room. Where the human had removed the Icon, was now a hologram of some sorts. “What’s that?” the female human asked the Oracle. “A beacon,” it responded simply. “What’s it doing?” the female questioned. “Communicating at super luminous speeds.” “With what?” “The other installations.” The Arbiter felt his head throb as he slowly got to his feet. He started over to where the two humans and the Oracle stood. “The other installations are now prepared for remote activation,” the Oracle explained in response to something the humans had asked. “From here?” the female asked. “Don’t be ridiculous,” the Oracle replied in a patronizing tone. That seemed to get the human soldier riled up. “Listen tinkerbell, don’t make me-” his response was cut off by the human female as she waved him off. “Then where? Where would someone go if they wanted to activate the other rings?” “Why, the Ark of course,” the Oracle replied as if it was supposed to be common knowledge. The Arbiter walked between the two humans and regarded the Oracle. “And where Oracle, is the Ark?” the Arbiter inquired. -------------- If there was one thing John 117, otherwise known as the Master Chief, truly despised, it would have to be fighting in space. The thought of being blown to bits by some orbital fire without so much as the chance to pull the trigger on his weapon made him feel vulnerable in a way that should not have been possible. If he had his way, the Covenant would not fight their battles in space, instead they would land there ships on whatever planet that was in their way, and engage the enemy from on the ground. Fighting on the ground with dirt beneath his feet was the only way to fight a war. Unfortunately, the Covenant preferred to stay in orbit around a planet, and burn it into cinder and then finish ‘glassing’ it with plasma fire from their fleet. Because of this, it was inevitable that John would be forced to fight the majority of the time in space. Not that he was useless when it came to fighting off the ground. The Master Chief had been trained since the age of six in nearly every form of combat known to humankind. The destruction of the ‘Unyielding Hierophant’ was proof enough of this. Now though, he wished that he wasn’t on the Forerunner ship, and was instead down on Earth, fighting against the Covenant forces. That was his luck though, he always got the more interesting missions. Some radio chatter caught his attention and he recognized one of the voices as Lord Hood, commander of the orbital defense guns that were positioned to protect Earth from the Covenant carriers. The Master Chief quickly identified himself before the ship could be targeted. ‘Isolate that signal,’ Lord Hood’s voice ordered. ‘Master Chief, you mind telling me why your on that ship?’ ‘I’m not entirely sure myself,’ John thought to himself. “Sir, finishing this fight.” Even over the chatter, he could hear the amusement in Lord Hood’s voice. ‘That’s good to hear, but as you’re the only soldier I’m receiving messages from, I’m presuming that you aren’t on that ship as a passenger.’ “No sir, the Covenant hierarch, the Prophet of Truth, is aboard this ship.” ‘Well, looks like you’ve completed your original mission from Reach then. What type of ship is that Chief, I’ve never seen a Covenant ship like it.’ “This isn’t a Covenant ship sir, it was built by the Forerunners.” The silence that remark generated was long and poignant. ‘I suppose that means it’s in all our best interests for you to take it over then. Is there any assistance that we can throw your way?’ “Not at the moment sir, all I can ask is that you refrain from attacking the ship until I have gained control. I’m not sure what kind of weaponry it carries,” the Master Chief explained. ‘Understood Master Chief, report your status every 10 minutes from now on, and when you get the chance I will need to hear about what happened after In Amber Clad followed the Prophet of Regret through Slipspace.’ “Yes sir,” the Master Chief replied, and closed the chatter. He picked up the Battle Rifle he had managed to hold onto when first entering the ship the hard way. Not counting the clip already in the weapon, John only had three spare magazines, definitely not enough to take out an entire ship filled with Covenant. Chambering a round, the Master Chief started down the tunnel. It was time to do what he did best. [Edited on 09.18.2008 7:45 PM PDT]

"And so it begins" is a LOTR TT quote: Theoden. Another side story, that will be cool, I think Jan will be a good person or Keyes, but you'll have to get the female thing right... I'll be back tuesday NZ (Monday US) {EDIT} lol just read last page kinda agree with the mod on some things [Edited on 2/2/2006]

 • Sweet, that's gotta be some kind of a record or something, like 2 weeks between chapters/side story. "So the " speculation "begins." -edited Sean Connery quote from Clancy or Bond or something. Majal seem to be purebloods i think and half breeds are that, majal + like other races or even flood, most likely flood though because they "harvest" food and stuff :)

 • Chapter 23 Information It seems like forever since I've done one of these posts, and actually it probably has been forever. Or three months, whatever comes first. Anyways, I should say this right away, there are only two scenes in this chapter. The first scene lasts maybe two pages, while the second scene will go on for more than likely, twenty. That's because this is the chapter where I lay the cards on the table in regards to the history of the Forerunners, the Majal, the Half-Breeds, the Pure Bloods, and all the other words I've used to describe basically the same thing. So yes, I'm putting you guys out of your misery which I'm sure will trigger cheers in the streets and stop the burning of effigies built to look like myself. I'm trying to keep the more serious tone I had with the side story in regards to the workings of this chapter, so expect a more or less, tense situation when Fasul spills the beans on the genocide of the universe. That's not to say there isn't more to come in regards to the story, plot-wise. We've still got Ackerson wandering the universe, along with Truth and the Forerunner on their way to Danrun, and lets not forget that the Flood are still a major player in this story and if you stretch your mind far enough, I'm sure you'll recall that when Johnson killed the Gravemind seed back on Earth, 2401 Penitent Tangent was not around then. We're looking at a chapter that's going to be sans Master Chief/Cyriacus, that's for sure. This is a dialogue chapter. Think of it like the Council of Elrond chapter in The Fellowship of the Ring. Nothing but talking and grumbling. In regards to how much more of this story we've got left, I'll throw out a number and say I'm likely going to wrap things up in four more chapters. I've got a few loose ends to tie up on Danrun, then there's going to be the big explosive chapter that will likely be Chapter 25, followed by the receding action of Chapter 26, and then the last shall be Chapter 27, followed by a short epilogue, styled after the Johnson side story, but more than likely using a different character. I can't say what occurs in Chapter 24, that's very hush hush around here. Let's just say things happen, and the biggest secret housed within the Covenant is exposed. Speculate away, but I am 100% certain no one will know as of right now. Perhaps after Chapter 23 hits its likely release date this weekend someone might get on the right track.

 •
Posted by: ROCKINGFOREVER7 I was banned once for posting random things in The Flood forums. Kind of ironic... Anyway great fanfic.
you see that right there is the -blam!- dmbfan is talking about... and he is right. more and more these fanfic threads have become useless. even i the great fanfic reader of old have lost intrest in posting in all my fave fanfic threads mainly because the people aree going retarded. MAINLY because they assume the mods dont check the fanfic threads. and i do realize im doing it myself even now but if i didnt say something my skin would be itching for weeks. all i know is clark is nutz. he sometimes has his moments... but as he himself said he isnt one of those post hungry people and it is indeed his followers that are the problem. i have even been thinking lately... what if you just forced everyone to post fanfic in the ofg (official fanfic group)? i meen it would save allot of random bumping from occuring here in new mombasa... but then again that might swell the bumping in the group to a huge rate. everyone wanting their fanfic read and all. but anyway... im glad to hear 23 is almost here... ever since i finished reading eragon and eldest ive been craving for more... and i forgot but how many more chapters aree left clark? i know you have to be getting close to the end.

 • I promise this will be my last posting on this topic...
Posted by: dmbfan09 *sigh* I don't want to take this more off topic, but you just don't seem to understand Revinetix. I'm not telling Mr_Clark to put his fanfics in The Flood, I was telling him to discuss his 360 problems in The Flood.
Ok, I didn't really think you expected that anyway.
This thread is not a forum where you can just talk about what you please. It is thread that is supposed to be about a fanfic.
I just don't fully agree, I don't see the harm in a group of readers chatting inbetween chapters. Especially when most of our chatting is realated to the author of the fanfic or thread.
And while I know me locking this thread won't really "ruin" his work, I don't believe anybody here would necessarily like the thread locked. End of discussion.
I agree, end of discussion. Again, I promise you will not hear from me again regarding this subject. Thanks for listening/reading. [Edited on 1/31/2006]

 • Shiska posted this when this forrum was opened: Subject: Welcome to New Mombasa! (READ HERE BEFORE POSTING) Welcome to the Halo 2 dedicated forum! Because this is a Halo 2 forum, please refrain from off topic conversation. There are a number of other forums available for Bungie topics, and the Flood is there for all your off topic needs. Enjoy the new forums, guys. =) ..... I understand the need to keep order in the forums. I for one always enjoy seeing a jerk get his thread locked for obvious reasons. The Flood is great if you want a bunch of random threads and all sorts of different topics. But definitely not the place for a masterpiece such as the one Mr. Clark and many others have created. I would wager that in most of the fanfic threads the vast majority of the posts are related to the thread topic, which is of course the storyline. I would also wager that in nearly every thread (fanfic or not) with more than a couple pages there is some level of bumping. I suppose this posting is considered off topic, if so, then I'll suffer the consequences. The point I am trying to make is one that Mr. Clark mentioned earlier. In this thread the readers have joined together and truly formed a community. The same is true for other threads. We love the stories and love to comment on them. Through our commenting we have come to know each other and enjoy the conversation amongst ourselves. And so, since we know that people of like minds are here reading, we post to each other. Clark was not bumping his thread, he hates bumpers, he was simply communicating with his friends and fanbase. This may not be related to the original topic of the thread, but the thread always evolves. I think the topic of this thread is Mr. Clarks wonderful story and his life and the lives of the readers. Rant: (feel free to skip this part) To be fair, I see that dmbfan09 has posted in a few other fanfics with similar warnings to keep them clean. Please don't get me wrong, I'm all for rules. You just seem to have a grudge. There are atrocious examples of bumping in many many threads. Why zero in on all the fanfics? Perhaps this is unintentional but why go after Mr Clark when there are worse offenders out there? Are you trying to make an example of him? It seems to me that a lot more topics will be locked now that dmbfan09 is on the prowl. dmbfan09, you mention in many of your other warning posts that you don't want to lock the thread and that doing so would be "effectively ruining the work of -Author Name-", well, locking the thread would NOT ruin their work at all, you don't have that kind of power, it would simply continue somewhere else. Just less readers here on the sweet n' sassy bungie.net forums. All the good stories are listed on fanfic.net anyway, and the authors could post anywhere else they like as well. We are just trying to enjoy the forum, just like every other large thread out there. Ok I'm done. Sorry if I offended, I just had to get that out. Oh, and Mr. Clark I love your work and I look forward to the next chapter. I also hope you get your 360 back soon.

 •
Posted by: Mr_Clark From now on I shall try and become what I was back in the early days of this thread's life, appearing solely to give information on the new chapter, and to post said chapters, and to answer any questions people have about this story. I ask that my reader's do the same, stoping by only to criticize my work, theorize about the story or whatever development occured in the latest chapter, or to ask me questions pertaining to the story's plot. I would assume that these are all safe options for someone to post about, so hopefully dmbfan09 will stop by once again and correct me if anything I've listed falls under the wrong category, saving any poster from potential warnings.
Seriously, that is all that I ask. This will be helpful for you and your readers, because it will keep this thread clear of crap that doesn't pertain to the story and puts people "off" from it because it is all disjointed. I'm not going to bother bumping up the other fanfics to tell them what I told you, but once they are bumped up I will mention the same things. And by the way, you can use tinyurl to reduce the size of the url to make it fit better.

Uh Oh the mod messed up, this thread is a guaranteed locked then if you post any more chapters. hehe Stupid mod.
Posting another chapter to his fanfic would not be considered bumping, because it is a continuation of the thread. Posting about his Xbox 360 not working is off topic for this thread and off topic for this forum, so it is just a bump. I'm going to be watching all of these fanfic threads much closer now, because it just seems people are trying to have a large thread and are missing the point of the thread. He should post a chapter, and then the other members should just talk about the story. Tell him what he did well and give constructive criticism. If anybody else goes off topic in this thread, that member will get one warning. If that member does it again, I will give them a week off (but I will not lock Mr_Clark's thread for other people's idiocy). If Mr_Clark goes off topic again and talks about anything but his fanfic, I will just lock the thread. Keep this thread the way it should be, a fanfic. Mr_Clark has done a lot of work here; and even if you don't believe me, I'd rather not lock this thread and "ruin" his work. Oh yeah, stupid blacklisted member. Try to use your brain before making an asinine comment. PS: I do have a little constructive criticism for Mr_Clark: It might be helpful if you link your Table of Contents on the first page to the posts that the chapter is located. To do this, you must determine what the post ID is for that particular post, which can be done by hitting the "Reply" button and looking at the url. You can than link to the chapter as shown: [url=http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=25 04772] Chapter 12 Which would then look like: Chapter 12 As you see, it links you directly to the first post of that chapter. It makes it a little easier to navigate the large thread and find the chapters easily. Make sure you put the space after the first ] an before the "Chapter", because when you go to edit the post it will put a space in the middle of "Chapter" if the space is not there. PM me if you have any questions if you decide to do this.
Ah, all right I understand now, but please don't think that I'm some delinquent hell bent on amassing posts to boost my ego. I mean, I was at one time quite eager to keep this thread dedicated to nothing more than stuff about the story. In between updates of chapters, when the wait began to grow, I'd ask for the forum goers to simply let the thread die, but by that time this story had gotten to the point where it was popular enough that a small community was built so people could go off and talk about other things without it being a sole effort by a single forum-goer. When I noticed that I myself was being pulled into that dangerous circle of off-topicness, I created a blog where I could talk about other things than this story, and have people talk on there. Click the bottom link in my sig for the truth to that statement. Unfortunately as I soon found out, people would quite simply read whatever I said in my blog, and then come back here and just talk about what I'd written in the thread, thus eliminating the sole reason I started the blog. Around that time I pretty much gave up and let the thread degenerate into chaos, myself contributing to it as well, which I understand is quite obviously against the forum rules. But at the time since every other fanfic thread that was large enough had wound up in the same situation, I figured what the hell. I apologize if my initial response was brusque after your first post, but at the time I had assumed I was on the receiving end of a singular effort. That my thread was to be the only one policed, but now I understand it's not to be, so I shall offer apologies on my part, as well as for the readers who apparently thought the same as I. In regards to your advice on managing the Table of Contents, that is quite interesting, as I had not realized it was possible to link to a sole post like that. Earlier on in this thread's life I had simply lazy linked to the page the chapter dwelt on, but unfortunately as time passed and more and more chapters were released, I ran out of space for doing the linking, and had to erase some of the prologue, which was quite hard to do. Finally I gave up and just posted what page it was on, but seeing as how this thread is over a year old now, I could probably erase the prologue and do the linking as you suggested. More than likely I can direct people to the area on fanfiction.net where the prologue is housed in its original, sloppy form. Now it seems I'm rambling on here so I'll wrap things up. From now on I shall try and become what I was back in the early days of this thread's life, appearing solely to give information on the new chapter, and to post said chapters, and to answer any questions people have about this story. I ask that my reader's do the same, stoping by only to criticize my work, theorize about the story or whatever development occured in the latest chapter, or to ask me questions pertaining to the story's plot. You can than link to the chapter as shown: [url=http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=2504772] Chapter 12 Which would then look like: Chapter 12 As you see, it links you directly to the first post of that chapter. It makes it a little easier to navigate the large thread and find the chapters easily. Make sure you put the space after the first ] and before the "Chapter", because when you go to edit the post it will put a space in the middle of "Chapter" if the space is not there. PM me if you have any questions if you decide to do this. [Edited on 1/31/2006]

 • wow i'm sorry, normally i have respect for the mods, but really think about it, it takes time to write a chapter and in that time we are waiting, we talk about random things, all of the fanfiction writers do it so unless you ban all of them you are going to have to deal with it, plus clark has been a great addition to bungie ask the other moderators i'm sure they'll say it's fine. also we should restore mr_clarks army to whatever glory it once had [Edited on 1/30/2006]

 •
Posted by: dmbfan09
Posted by: Mr_Clark Goddamn! I miss having a working Xbox 360, even though after two weeks of DoA4 action, I practically packed the thing away, only bothering to randomly enjoy the Fight Night 3 demo. I know its some kind of psychological thing, when my 360 worked fine I just neglected it every day, but now that its been tragically rendered useless, I can't stop thinking about it. I should be placed into a padded cell and studied for all of eternity. I keep thinking, 'Man, remember how cool it was in Condemned on Mission 6, when that totally freaky thing occurs, and the first time I saw it, I screamed and knocked over a glass of water that soaked my bed and made me sleep on the floor that night? Yeah, that was totally sweet.' Stuff along those lines, non-stop. Its driving me insane. Where's my goddamn BOX Microsoft! You said you'd send it on Thursday, and while logic clearly tells me that mail does not move on the weekend, to me it still says that it's been 5 days! I'm foaming at the mouth here!
What does this post have anything to do with the thread? To me, it looks like you just wanted to bump up the thread. I won't lock it this time, but don't let it happen again.
Actually, I'd have to disagree completely with this post. A page or two ago Clark posted about his 360 going down and this is just an update to the saga. Furthemore, as this thread has become largely a fansite for Clark's writtings, anything he posts about his personal life is, well... relevant. Clark was venting his frustrations to his online community, but bumping? No.
