English

Edited by zee germ4n: 3/11/2015 9:25:22 PMI don't know why anyone looks any further than this right here. It's a word from this guy's native language that he grew up speaking waaaaaay before it was ever used in some video game, yet there is argument over how it is pronounced. Smh

The only surviving written record of it is Icelandic, but the mythology was shared by all of Scandinavia as well. In the other Norse dialects it would be pronounced Yallarhorn. I would consider both correct personally.
-
Not doubting you but the phrasing of your response begs the question Are you Scandinavian? If so then thanks for the knowledge, but if not then your opinion is not as reliable as the fact that the guy on the podcast is legit Icelandic
-
I admit, I am not Scandinavian (which would be Sweden, Norway, and Denmark today), but any Swede will look at that word and pronounce it Yallarhorn.
-
But have you actually watched the planet destiny podcast? It says that the current Scandinavian pronunciation is wrong because of some reason I don't remember, or something like that
-
Really? I had no idea but if you're sure, I have an easier, but just as correct pronunciation that isn't ridiculous to say

The records specifically mentioning the Gjallarhorn are found in the Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda, both of which were Icelandic compilations of Norse mythology. There are other works but they don't mention the Gjallarhorn (Wikipedia actually has a nicely written article about it). However the legends and myths would've pervaded the whole culture. And in Scandinavia (modern day Norway, Sweden, and Denmark) it would be pronounced Yallarhorn. I consider both to be correct.
