|Halo: Coral| Chapter 9 up| Important note for those on mailing list!|

dont worry, it gets better as you read! “That ship’s not one of ours; take it out!” “This is Spartan one-one-seven, can anybody hear me? Over.” “Isolate that signal. Is that you Master Chief? You mind telling me what your doing on that ship?" “Sir. Finishing this fight.” * * * Master Chief checked his motion tracker. There were no signs of flood in this part of the ship. Thousands of Brutes and Elites were scrambling to board the ship to get to Earth to annihilate the humans, but most Elites were denied by Honour Guards. It was all Brutes running the show, not to mention Jackals and Drones. Master Chief noticed the Elites starting to break the Covenant, and fighting the Brutes, regardless of what the prophets had ordered. Without Cortana, what was Master Chief? A geneticly enhanced super-soldier. He was… lost. No. Not lost. What was this feeling? He didn’t know what to do. Kill the prophet of Truth? Yes. That was his mission. Kill or capture. Either way; he had to kill everything on this ship, may it be Elites, honour guards Brutes, Hunters, Drones, Jackals… everything. “Well, here it goes.” Chief said to himself. He jumped into the ship, and slid down the ramp. Spartan John-117 walked up the arching stairway. Corridors… empty. No one anywhere. Then, out of nowhere, something hit John and his shield meter reduced to absolutely nothing. Jackals with Sniper Rifles. John thought as he dived behind a wall. He didn’t know where the bullet had came from, but the Prophet knew he was here-and he prayed that the jackal wasn’t on an angle to hit him. Nothing sizzling plasma or explosive Brute Shots, nor any Carbine rounds-and yet, Master Chief’s motioned tracker had dozens…hundreds of red dots-indicating enemies. Should Master Chief kill the prophet, exit the ship, then to the surface of Earth? No. He would find out the secret of this ship, and then protect Earth. Master Chief still had the nagging thought in his head-What do the Covenant want from Earth? Was it like the crystal from Reach, or was there something even more important? That didn’t matter now… The red dots proceeded on Master Chief’s position, when only about three meters away, stood a Brute Captain. Luckily Master Chief still had a large box between him and the Brute. Master Chief wished he had his fellow Spartans here-were they dead? All these questions… John threw a plasma grenade he had picked up on High Charity, it stuck to the Brute Captain’s face, and detonated. This explosion killed about seven other Brutes following closely behind the Captain. Now, it was the oh-so-familiar sound of plasma sizzling the through the air, but no grenades. Chief heard the Prophets voice, yet he did not know how, probably from the COM frequency. “The Demon is now on board. I want all Honour Guards and personnel to the bridge of the ship to guards the,” The Prophet paused. “Sacred Icon.” The Prophet finished. Master Chief noticed a lot of the Brutes turn and head towards the bridge. Master Chief now only had to take out 43. That was a break. Master Chief had no weapon, only three more plasma grenades and a fragmentation grenade, not the weapons of choice in this situation exactly. Master Chief poked his head around the corner and threw a grenade-without even looking to see what was there. About twelve Jackals spread across the hall, the hall only being two meters wide, caused the Jackals shield to overlap. Even if Master Chief got by those, there were two hunters with their shields up behind the jackals. John noticed a Needler on the ground. Why had he not noticed this before? John asked himself. He jumped of his cover position, fired eleven rounds, and dived back. He noticed his energy shield bar had dropped by a quarter. They were ready for him. [Edited on 7/2/2005]

 • At the surface, John saw something different this time on Earth. Civilians. He saw them running down the streets-getting killed. The Flood would kill them all. He had to stop the civilians from getting eaten by Flood. He forgot about his old mission about the hospital, the human race was more important. The Pelican touched down, on the only flat surface. Everything else was destroyed. The once mighty CN Tower had crashed to the ground. In 2373, the CN Tower was extended another 500 feet or so. It wasn’t the tallest, but it definitely was a beauty. It had made an almighty ditch on the Earth’s surface, some 740 metres deep. When falling, it evidently caused an artificial earthquake, knocking down other buildings in the area. No Marines or any UNSC personnel held their position here. It was a hellhole. John saw an infected human flood form watch the Pelican hit the ground. It made a strange sound, then ran viciously towards the Pelican, followed by seven or eight other human infected flood forms, not to mention dozens of small flood pod forms. John whipped out his Battle Rifle, and fired a three round burst into one of the flood’s chest cavities. It fell to the ground, dead, or knocked out, who could tell? It was only three shots from the Battle Rifle to kill the thing. As he had noticed on Delta Halo, a shot to the chest was fatal, especially from a Carbine or Battle Rifle, because the shot punctured the flood infection form, and the human or covenant flood fell down, dead until revived from another little infection form. John fired another seven three round bursts, for a total of 21 shots. All of the Flood posing a legitimate thread were dead. He kept the last twelve rounds, and switched the Battle Rifle to single shots. This was when he realized that this was not a normal Battle Rifle. There was a switch for single shots. No matter, this was perfect for taking out some Flood Infection Forms. He couldn’t go to Coral now. He just couldn’t. He’d have to hope those Marines and ODSTs could hold off two alien races. Then again, maybe the two alien races would hold off eachother. The Arbiter got up, and looked around. He was behind a huge boulder, two red Sangheili looking at him, smiling as he came to. “We must go to Coral.” The Arbiter stated. “And what’s Coral?” A red Sangheili asked. “It’s a planet. Cortana sent me a message. We need to go their now.” “But what about our mission?” The other red Sangheili said. “No, we can’t. We need to help the Demon.” “The Demon?” a red Sangheili shouted. “Yes. We need his help.” Sergeant Johnson approached the Arbiter, blood dripping down from a wound in his knee. “We call him a Spartan-and they are others like him. You should respect them. They’re the reason you guys didn’t kill us all on the first hula-hoop. And don’t even get me started with the lives they’ve saved on the other planets that you aliens mindlessly destroyed.” “I can’t take it anymore! These humans are pesky little varmints! They should all be killed!” A White coloured council Elite shouted, for hundreds of other watching elites. The Elites shouted and screamed, they loved this guy. He hated the humans – and that’s what the Elites wanted the whole time. However, the Arbiter did not like this decision, and the white commander Elite, known as Buka ‘Bummamee felt sick with disbelief. He walked over to Sergeant Johnson. “Whatever the situation, the Arbiter and I will always be loyal to you. The Arbiter turned around. He looked at the other Elites; they were no different than the Brutes and the Prophets. They just joined the Covenant for wealth, and to rule the universe. They had no regard for life, human or covenant. They were useless to him. The Arbiter however knew that the humans would win this war, they may have everything destroyed except for their home planet, but that home planet was well defended. They would destroy wave and wave of every covenant attacker. The only thing, is that now is different. There were thousands, possibly even millions of covenant ships on their way towards Coral right now, to get the key to the Ark. The Arbiter turned around. He pulled a plasma grenade from his belt, trying to look at the best place to stick it. He looked to the left, then to the right, wherever the most Sangheili stood. That would give them a better chance for their escape. The Arbiter leaned over to Johnson and Buka Bammamee. He whispered the plan. Buka reached into his belt, not revealing to the by standing Sangheili what he was doing. He had pulled out a plasma grenade and was ready to throw it onto the second-biggest crowd of Sangheil. Johnson pulled up a Magnum, to firing level, but pretty close. He took another one off of his belt. They had little chance, but if they were lucky they could get over to Coral before the Sangheili army. What could come of this? The Arbiter thought to himself. Would the Sangheili make another army and fight the flood, humans, and the Prophets, or will they rejoin the Prophet’s reign? Either way, the situation would be harder for the Arbiter, Buka, and the humans. The Arbiter gazed into the eyes of those worthless traitors, they were all waiting upon him. He pressed the button of the plasma grenade hidden behind his back. He pulled it far behind, and the Elites scattered. Not in time however. Buka and the Arbiter tossed the grenades, both sticking to separate Sangheili, fairly close together. This gave them a cap. At least seven lives were taken from the two plasma grenades and about four more from Johnson’s double magnums. The ran through two grey coloured cliffs, like those he found before attacking Tarturus. It was time to leave. The only thing important now was Coral. Coral had no defences; Earth did. Earth had 298 MA Cannons ready to pierce through almost any Covenant attacker. But when over 700 ships enter at the same time? No doubt around half of those ships were just three Sangheili controlling it on a suicide mission to protect the planet on his entry to the planet. The Covenant would also stay out of the MA Cannon’s reach and fire it’s piercing plasma pulse lasers, destroying everything. The Arbiter ran, to find four Brutes in a Spectre. He approached the full Spectre, turned, and nodded to the short Sergeant Johnson and the white commander Sangheili known as Buka ‘Bamamee. Johnson went around back and grab the Brute on the turret, attempting to yank if off the alien vehicle. He wasn’t successful. The Brute held on the turret and batted at Johnson with his free hand. Johnson ducked, and swung from left to right. Eventually, the Brute swatted him some ten feet over from the Spectre. There it is... The segment that took me almost 2 months to make... a 17second read...

 • The last part of the last update was really crappy, so here's the last two updates smooshed together. Find this on. you'll see where it is. I also made some chapter location changes, you'll notice Chapter 9 has an increased length. “Miranda! Get the hell out of here! Take the Spartans!” Mendez yelled. He fought to his last breathe, and was assassinated by a Brute seconds after. They were all dead, except for one Brute. -------WHERE YOU LEFT OFF LAST-------- John looked at Cortana’s holographic appearance. John looked down at his destroyed, bloody, soot-stained and cracked MJOLNIR Mark VI armour. “I guess ‘you look nice’ isn’t appropriate for the given situation?” Cortana asked. “You got it.” John replied. “Listen, Chief. Just before you run away to Coral, we’ve got a hospital of some sort in Toronto Ontario. The place is highly suburban, and the robots want something there. Find it, destroy it.” “What did you say about a hospital?” Chief asked. “ Oh, yes. It’s under the high-tech hospital.” “What is it?” “Something that should be destroyed in a 7 hour maximum. Admiral Paul Russel says he can defend Coral for a nine hour margin with Linda-058 and Frederic-104. Also I believe Kelly will be rescued on a private mission by Frederic-104 sometime around 0954 hundred hours.” “Kelly’s been kidnapped?” “By the orange aliens, yes. Now off with you, don’t worry about it.” “Where’s Will?” “He’s been on the mission for 34 minutes and 21 seconds already. Pick up some weapons in the Armoury, then double-time it to the Launch Bay, where we have a human Pelican waiting for you, with officer Liantrov ready to fly it.” Master Chief exited the room, walking fast to the Armoury. He was in the armoury, as the purple doors slid apart in the Covenant ship, the Excalibur. Only four Helljumpers stood in the middle of the room, staring at the Master Chief. He was used to it by now however. He saw weapons-human and Covenant-everywhere. He thought about his mission. He pulled out a Battle Rifle, and over 900 rounds for it, the Battle Rifle was always a standard go to weapon, then he grabbed the Jackhammer Launcher, perfect for heavy weaponry, which he slung on his back. He took 12 rounds for it, and tied four around the Rocket Launcher itself. He took 12 fragmentation grenades, and four plasma grenades. They would both be of use. He continued over to the Pelican Dropship, and saw a small squad of four or five marines waiting for him to give them the go ahead. One held a Jackhammer Launcher, one with an M90 Shotgun, one with two Magnums, one with an SMG and another one tied to his waste, one with a Covenant Energy Sword. The Master Chief was impressed about how a marine had mastered the Energy Sword. It was hard to use. He had seen marines slit themselves, and even kill themselves. It wasn’t safe to use one without an Energy Shield. The five marines were tough, ready for anything. They stood, staring at the Master Chief. He was over half a tonne in his MJOLNIR armour. They saluted him, then told him their names “Private Joseph here, sir.” Said the Jackhammer wielding marine. “Sergeant Stevens,” Said the one with the Energy Sword. “good to meet you.” He added on. “Private Baxter, sir!” The marine with the shotgun said. “Corporal McGuire,” Said the one with two Magnums. “Private Bush, sir.” The one with the SMG mumbled. He wasn’t looking forward to this mission, apparently. “Good to meet you men,” Started the Master Chief. “Call me Chief, Master Chief, or 117. I prefer Chief.” John said. The Marines nodded. “Let’s get to work boys!” Sergeant Stevens shouted. The boarded the Pelican, and quickly exited the huge hull of the Descendant Hope. John examined the debris of destroyed Covenant, human, and even other foreign ships. The orange aliens had only two destroyed ships, their debris lying only a few kilometres away from the MAC Station called the Washington. He had a name for these newly discovered creatures. Bastards. That word describe every aspect of those orange bastards. All they did was hide behind their quadruple over shields, and fire weapons that just exploded. They had no heart. The Covenant had no heart either. They just see a planet, then glass it. They don’t care. They’ll glass Earth soon too, once they’ve done what they’ve got to do, which was destroy all of the races, whether it be themselves, the humans, or the Bastards. The Flood would likely take control of the galaxy. Something’s not right. There was something weird in space. What was it? It wasn’t human. He walked into the cockpit of the Pelican. Private Joseph was piloting the ship. “Take us closer to that object.” Master Chief said, pointing to the inhuman body. It had for limbs, it had every human aspect. The body seemed to gain detail as the Pelican slowly edged forward. It wasn’t human. It wasn’t Covenant. It wasn’t Bastard either. It was a human Flood form. CHAPTER 9========== 0043, October 26th, 2552, Spartan Mission Clock In Pelican Dropship E-415, preparations for entering Earth’s atmosphere. How did the Flood make it? How the heck did they get to Earth? Cortana. John opened a private COM channel with his A.I., who rested in his helmet, soundless. “Did you give that Gravemind thing Earth’s location?” “He tricked me.” Cortana replied. “How did that thing trick you?” John asked. “I don’t know, one of those things that just happened.” “Cortana, your losing it.” John said. “He stole the information. I dumped all of my important data into High Charity’s computer systems before he asked me questions, just in case. Force deployment, weapons research, Earth. He knows everything. How was I supposed to know he had some kind of control over the computer systems of High Charity.” “That was stupid.” John replied, still thinking of the information she had told him. “So you betrayed the human race?” No, I merely told an intelligent parasitic life-form the location of the original human homeworld.” “So you betrayed us?” John asked again. “In a manner of speaking, yes.” Cortana replied. “That was stupid.” John repeated. “Not as stupid as what you’re doing right now.” “Oh yeah?” John asked. “What’s that?” “I don’t know, however it’s not you’re mission.” John didn’t answer he just stood there. “Take this bird down to Toronto, let’s make this quick.” John said to Private Joseph. He floored the Pelican’s engines, and it took off, down to the surface of Earth. At the surface, John saw something different this time on Earth. Civilians. He saw them running down the streets-getting killed. The Flood would kill them all. He had to stop the civilians from getting eaten by Flood. He forgot about his old mission about the hospital, the human race was more important.

 • If you look in the dictionary, you'll find this is the meaning of short, but just to feed you guys because I've been so busy!! Now all of these Spartans were in danger. The augmentations were tomorrow and they had already managed to get the whole complex overrun by the Flood. He ran to the huge laboratory of all known knowledge, seeing immobile Flood forms on the walls, like huge lumps of Flood-flesh. It was the weirdest thing he’d ever seen. 1000 hours, SEPTEMBER 29,2552/MILITARY CALENDAR\ ON ‘INSTALLATION 05’ “This is CPO Mendez to all UNSC patrol in-range, this is the whole SPARTAN-III project crew, and we need help. We need at least nine Pelican Dropships ASAP.” They had been running from the Flood for four years, at least 12 of them killed already. CPO Mendez was running out of time when but one UNSC ship, the In Amber Clad had arrived out of slipspace, and he needed a ride back. The In Amber Clad slowly came towards their position, as Mendez peeped out of the small hole in the cave. A floating red light bulb had called this the Quarantine Zone, not that it really mattered at the moment. The ship went back into high orbit, and CPO Mendez asked for SPARTAN-058’s S2 AM Sniper Rifle. She unwillingly handed it over, and he looked through the scope seeing little pods-ODSTs-fall towards the ground, some 50 kilometres away. Mendez felt hope for his star trainee, John-117 to be the one that rescues him, but it was likely not the case. He stared at the ship for two days, when it came at a high speed towards his position. The InAmberClad landed only 26 metres away from the mouth of the tunnel. He signalled for his Spartans to enter the small human ship, so they did. They looked around, something wasn’t right. The hatches were jammed open, and Brutes swarmed the area. “Miranda! Get the hell out of here! Take the Spartans!” Mendez yelled. He fought to his last breathe, and was assassinated by a Brute seconds after. They were all dead, except for one Brute. CHAPTER 9====== 0007, OCTOBER 26, 2552/MILITARY CALENDAR\ ABOARD COVENANT FLAGSHIP, EXCALIBUR. John looked at Cortana’s holographic appearance.
