Do you prefer RNG loot over set loot?

- I kind of see where destiny's RNG loot system is going. It's a neat experiment and it works better then I would have thought if you sat down and explained it to me. That whole..you never know what your going to get- so you gotta keep pushing hard..thing. It does solve a lot of the issue when it comes to farming items and questing top tier equipment. Kinda makes looking for equipment .. a thing of the past. Sure you can have your wishlist. . But now.. you have to adapt to what you are issued. It's an interesting setup. Other games use a level requirement on items for this effect- But then most people just grind for the items.. then are unhappy because of having to grind so much. Here the grind is different. .. But are the goals the same?

    • Asking if I like RNG over set loot is like asking if I like donkey ball sandwiches over hamburgers.

The reason people still grind and the reason people have quit is because of gjallarhorn. They either are willing to put in time to attempt to get it or they have put in the time and are frustrated they havent gotten it so they quit. I dont mind rng (im luckier than most I geuss) but if youve spent 1000+ hours grinding vog nf and crota then I think you deserve it. Maybe if you could buy them from xur after you hit a certain number of completions or kills. Or maybe if you could buy them from xur for things other than just coins like 50 coins a vog helmet a glowhoo shader and 500 weapon parts.

      • I like RNG and I think Xur should sell exotics but at a greater cost so exotics are actually worth something...

        • It depends what kind of RNG we're talking about. In the case of Destiny, set without a doubt.

        • only rng drops i like are through the raid. i would prefer all other exotics be bounties(or rewards for nightfalls), i don't mind grinding when i know exactly what I'm going to get.

        • Well they both have their ups and downs. But honestly I feel like they could meet in the middle somewhere so I can grind with more of a cause and not have it be so random.

          • It's awful. Does more harm than good. Is a lazy way of absolving Bungie the design effort of implementing interesting ways to get loot. The sooner Bungie moves past this little gerbil wheel, the better.

          • It's alright. But Xür is necessary. Otherwise unlucky players get tired of chasing the carrot and quit.

          • I kind of liked the loot system for WoW, the only problem with it is there's only one item, and with destiny you would have 5 other buttmunches that would claim they "need" it. Every random loot system has it's disadvantages.

          • Rng is not bad because it makes you want to play but i feel certain items should be set loot but challenging to get

            • I think set loot is a great idea, not to the exclusion of RNG loot, but I think it should be better integrated. One of the massive (overstated, but still) disappointments for The Dark Below, for me, was completing that set of missions for Eris and being rewarded with Light 33 gauntlets. They're neat and all, but I couldn't help wondering why not make them comparable to Raid gear at Light 36? We arguably put in much more effort for that Eris quest, but reap a much poorer reward. Overall, I think one of Destiny's major failings with this Light Level system is in making Raid Gear the only real way to achieve the Light Level Cap. A few pieces of Iron Banner gear make it more accessible, but they barely count, they're inferior items, and they require much more effort than they reward. Raid Gear should be attractive for its perks, not for being the relatively exclusive path to the Light Level Cap. More gear should be able to hit it. Iron Banner Gear should have its own special set of perks that make it attractive and stand out from the Vendor gear.

              • I don't mind some RNG. But there is no way to work for most specific exotics. Which can make the game frustrating. It would be nice to have the ability to work towards a goal, rather than just hoping for the best.

                • If it was a fixed loot system, everyone would do the missions once then stop because they have all the rewards. With RNG loot, you have to keep going back to re-run the same missions. No game company can create missions at the rate that the community can comets them. The only way to keep people coming back is to give the a reason to re-run the same stuff over and over again. I can see Bungie's point of view. Does anyone have a better way to keep people coming back without the huge time & cost of developing and releasing new material on (almost) a weekly basis?

                • The problem with rng in this game is that there isn't anything you can do that doesn't involve rng. The only thing that's guaranteed in this game is exp and even that becomes pointless after a while. I understand why it's like that because like someone said earlier, this game would in no way be able to stand on it's own without rng being the way it is.
