Ok, if you don't know by now, Bungie's name came from a punch line in a dirty joke. The mystery is, no one knows what that joke was.
So tonight I was watching Comedy Central's "The Roast of Bob Saget", then Norm McDonald, (SNL), stepped up to the the stage to do his act. He was roasting on John Stamos, (you know Uncle Jessie), and said;
"John Stamos has a repetition of being a swinger. When John Stamos was born, he didn't have an umbilical cord attached. He had a bungee cord coming out."
Now ofcourse I'm sure that is not the exact joke, but I am wondering if is even close to the joke that inspired Bungie to get it's name?
It would be great to atleast get a yay or, nay from someone who really knows.

i read in EGM interview with a bungie exec in like 2001, that Bungie name came from a couple of them robbing a grave a initiation and the guys last name was Bungie. look it up. it was probably a joke, but it was said by either jason or mr. Stubbs the Zombie.

If memory serves, the Marathon Scrapbook quoted Alex Seropian saying it was named Bungie because "it sounded cool". There was no reference to a dirty joke of any sort...
-
I hope you guys know, that everyone who was on "The Roast" is a terrible comedian. Absolutely horrible.
Posted by: Dark Rebel2 Honestly, Norm's jokes bombed on the Roast, only a few people actually got his jokes. Besides, If Bungie had a dirty joke it would be funnier than that.
Boy your not kidding about Norm McDonald's jokes sucking big ones last night. I thought the old lady was one of the funniest. "I won an Oscar and multiple Emies.I don't even know why I showed up here tonight. There's so many f-ing losers here, I just wanna punch myself in the face to see some f-ing stars." That was funny.

The joke is there is no joke. The name was chosen because it sounded fun.

I forgot this is the Bungie forums where everyone knows everything but, can't explain anything. And for all those who claim to know, you don't, or you would have spilled the beans along time ago. So quit lying. It's not cool anymore. [Edited on 08.18.2008 9:27 AM PDT]

They didn't need a reason to name it Bungie. Why wouldn't you name your company Bungie?
-
It's about 3 men in the Jungle.

If they posted the joke on here it would probaly look like this. -BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM!-

I don't even think that 'Bungie' came from the punchline of a dirty joke. That's a common excuse of 'we're not telling you'. It's so secret, that only a few Grizzled Ancients know. Someone also said a while ago that they picked it because it sounded fun. Inconsistency means that they've probably been giving us untruths and diversions all along. The only way you'll ever find out is if you become a seasoned Grizzled Ancient. [Edited on 08.18.2008 7:58 AM PDT]

Urban legends are often reproduced by those who know a friend of a friend who has a cousin that had it happen to them.
-
Nobody knows the joke. Don't listen to the ones that think they do
-
No one will be able to confirm this because even the Grizzled Ancients have long forgotten the joke in question.

Yeah, an old friend told me the joke. Long ago. I don't fully remember it, but the one you gave, isn't it.

Yeah, but you have also think that Norm McDonald did put it nicely so it would not have any bleeps during the show. Use some imagination.
Almost exactly one hour after the show begins, you can hear the joke for youself. This is what I heard. "John Stamos has a repetition of being a swinger. When John Stamos was born, he didn't have an umbilical cord attached. He had a bungee cord coming out." [Edited on 08.17.2008 11:18 PM PDT]
