"Gay people don't have a right to be served in every store"
State Sen. Joseph Silk made that statement in an interview with the New York Times, which examines the broader push for so-called religious freedom laws in a story published online Thursday. Silk told the Times that he while he knows real, breathing homosexuals and even considers some his friends, he nevertheless sees gay people as the top threat to religious liberty. “The L.G.B.T. movement is the main thing, the primary thing that’s going to be challenging religious liberties and the freedom to live out religious convictions,” Silk said. “And I say that sensitively, because I have homosexual friends.” “They don’t have a right to be served in every single store,” he added. “People need to have the ability to refuse service if its violates their religious convictions.” Give Silk some credit. While other supporters of legislation allowing anti-LGBT discrimination glide over the measures’ real-life consequences, he readily owns up to them: If Silk’s bill becomes law, it would mean businesses and individuals denying services to gay people, whom he considers unworthy of equal protection under the law.
lolthisguy

    • An owner has a right to say certain people are not allowed. If they are the owner of the store then it is their property and they can decide who is allowed on it.

      • Derp. I run a business myself, and why any owner would deny service over shit like this is unfathomable; you're there to provide a service and make living, leave your personal bullshit at the door.

            • Well... Yeah they should have the right to do that if it offends there religion. Christians get hate for it but when a Muslim does it it's fine because it's there religion. Should anyone do it? No. Should they technically have the right? Yes :/. And if your homosexual and don't want to be refused, just act and dress normal and give society some time, just act like you and your partner are friends going shopping.

            • Here in Canada, you can be who and what you want to be, free of discrimination and refusal of services. You have money? Come right on in and take a look around. ^^ Denying gay people from shopping is sickeningly gross. Treat those as you would want to be treated yourself

A business is for the public and served by the public. You can not and should not deny service depending on their sexual orientation. It's like how you can not deny someone a job for being a African America. Discrimination is not legal so it should not be conducted in the business place or world no matter the owners' believe. They created the business to provide a service, not to deny a service to certain people. Religion and business do not mix and should not mix. These kind of old mentality the government has is plausibly because of the old men and woman who have been in office for too long. We need younger more future thinkers and problem solves in the government. We have many issues with everything but one step will create the snowball rolling towards a better world. We just need people to give it the first push.

                    • In most cases I have to wonder how they would even know a customer was gay. While I'd certainly be disheartened to learn someone was using their religion as a vessel to discriminate against my sexuality, I'd take my business elsewhere. I wouldn't want to be contributing to the profits of homophobes. However, I think a lot of people fail to realize that nothing within Christianity says to deny service to homosexuals. In fact Christianity says not to judge others. It restricts homosexual (or in general sodomizing) acts, none of which are being performed if you simply provide service to someone who is gay. People who say that they're exercising their religious freedom in denying service to gay people don't seem to care that their religion says nothing about that. I'd also have to assume that if someone was to deny service to Christians, or a certain race or gender, there would be a lot more outrage and backlash. People will cry that their religious freedom is being curbed both if they can't deny services to certain groups, or if someone denies service to them. Unfortunately they don't realize that if it's supposedly okay to deny certain customers, they really don't have a leg to stand on if someone denies them service. I'm sure gay people have had to serve hyper-religious homophobes. Even if they refused to serve homophobes, there would still be a difference. Homophobes would be denying service to people simply because they don't believe those people deserve service. Gay people would be denying homophobes service because homophobes seek to impede their rights. Basically, if you can deny service to one group of people, then you have to be able to deny it to any group.

Denying based on business should be every owners right. If it's discriminatory, then that isn't right. The problem is, if a customer is denied service based on business, the owner is still -blam!-ed if that customer is a minority or of a different sexual orrientation. As long as you're a straight white, you're chances of winning a trial like that is very slim because the media has confused the vast majority of people that straight white people are evil.
