We know that all animal traits evolve because they offer an advantage: survival of the fittest (or smartest). So clearly human intelligence evolved because the smart survived and the stupid died. But not any more. Intelligence is no longer a prerequisite for procreation. A cynic might note it's often the least intelligent who have the most kids. Civilization shields us from the consequences of our idiocy. As a consequence, in the long run we are doomed. We are no longer being naturally selected for intelligence. Inevitably, slowly, surely we as a species are going to become stupider and stupider. It won't happen overnight. You won't have any kids if you're a vegetable. But you [i]can[/i] have plenty of kids if you're an idiot. The only way to avoid this fate is a program of selective breeding of high IQ individuals. Don't you agree?
