What most of us have suspected for many months has been accidentally revealed by a Bungie executive: PvP is so boring that almost no one participates in it. It's WAY less popular than grinding out bounties, or running the same strike over and over. Actually read the link before you run your mouth.
*Edit: I'm just the messenger. 'Don't shoot the messenger.'
For those of you who are scoring at home there are two VERY SEPARATE parts of Destiny.
1) Story. 2) PvP.
The Story (PvE) dominates Guardian time at an overwhelming
85%.
PvP is a paltry 15%.

3 RepliesThis is really, really silly. PvP activities are limited to 12 minute (I think?) bursts of intense activity. PvP activities are not farmed, and people don't dick about in them (for the most part). Every other activity in the game sees people spending hours farming for various things, chatting and fooling around with friends, trying to jump onto things, and so on and so forth. It's the nature of PvP activities for them to take up less time than PvE ones in a game like this. That proportion seems absolutely fine and PvP should continue to get plenty of attention.

Big Dick Rick and his cousin Mandingo win every match. That's why people don't play anymore. Get too butt hurt over getting destroyed

deserving of a bump.

No wonder they keep pumping out IB's. Their mind set is so odd. Bungie: hmm they hate this particular thing?...... I GOT IT! Lets make everything across the board suck so bad that they have no choice but to like this! GENIUS!! I could care less if crucible burned away never to be heard from again. Only played it for exotic bounties anyways.
-
3 RepliesI think they posted it on purpose. If you think about it, activision is the reason why most stuff is pvp oriented. So them posting that would be a huge -blam!- you to activision showing them, pvp can't drive this game.

2 RepliesEdited by GemCutter: 3/6/2015 10:09:59 PMSo let me get this straight... Bungie has downright RUINED some of my favorite guns in PVE, because of PVP, which is only 15% of the game.... Wow...

I'm glad you edited your title.
-
lol. What I bunch of biased bs.
-
This is alarmist bs. The game has a lot of pve content; there's a daily story, weekly strikes, and weekly raids. The vendor inventories never change, so the only opportunity to get new gear is random drops. Comparatively, there isn't a lot of pvp content; a couple very similar modes and a few maps. Overall, the percentages reflect the amount of content available and the reward profiles much more than player interest. There are a lot of things that could improve crucible, but the nerfs and buffs are a good thing; pvp was never as much fun as the day I could finally use a pulse rifle effectively. The other main problem is the rewards; experience gains and material rewards are terrible in pvp compared to strikes and high level stuff. The bounties are more difficult and more time consuming, and you get no weapon experience. Given the proper incentives people will absolutely get into pvp.
-
Pvp gets old good pve events would be great.
-
The reason why Bungie doesnt focus on PVE is because it would require for them to make NEW content rather than regurgitating the same content over and over again.
-
Edited by puppyk1sses: 3/7/2015 4:50:02 AMReward system is broken in Crucible. If I play ROC strikes, i'm guaranteed at least 1 blue engram every strike. Sometimes I get 3-4. I'm also getting more leg. engrams and exotics. If i'm playing crucible, I might get 1 blue engram every 4-5 matches. A strike takes roughly the same amt of time as a crucible match. Muchmuchmuchmuch more lucrative to do PVE content than PVP content, unless it's Iron Banner and good guns are up for grabs.

1 ReplyJust one of the factors that made me abandon the game. Never in my 35 year long gaming life have I seen a company read their own player base as wrong as Bungie has with Destiny. To enrage 85% of their player base to "improve" the experience for the other 15% is beyond stupid. To neglect PVE content for repeated Iron Banners is beyond stupid. And that's just 2 out of about 100 criticisms I have of the game. You had a great opportunity Bungie, you blew it.

2 RepliesEdited by Sipau Fade: 3/6/2015 9:28:33 PMWhat an absolutely ridiculous conclusion to draw from, arguably, the worst way to represent data (the pie chart ). By this stupid logic, PVP is more popular than the Raid, if you want to believe this asinine interpretation of this no-name website that couldn't understand data if their life depended on it.

Edited by King Hutch IV: 3/7/2015 1:52:04 AMLike many of the comments I'm reading, I also find these numbers to be misleading/manipulative. I actually found it curious when I looked at my own stats and saw that my control matches were not even close to my pve time. Yet PvP is the only reason I still play this game. Its my favourite part of the game. Quality over quantity, my good man. Edit: I read the article after the fact. Bleck. Garbage. There is practically nothing credible in it other than "bungle released a pie chart of time played distribution". The game modes are divided appropriately and distributed quite well at that. Bungie's position confuses the author on the matter because he is overthinking and interpreting information he doesn't have a full understanding of. Destiny appeals to millions of different gamers. Some who dont like any PvP at all. Its a very biased, objective article and should hold no weight to anyone.

4 RepliesWhat's really scary is that a solid third of that pie chart is time that people spend in the tower a.k.a. doing nothing.
-
3 RepliesI would like to c the actual time spent doing the activities. A PvP match is 10-15 minutes sometimes less. But I think I spend more time in match making, flying back to the tower to turn in bounties and looking at the end of match screen so if u combin that I spend more time in PvP doing PvP things. Would that increase the time spent in PvP? As for pve I spend a lot of time dicking around cuz I have almost everything (day oner wot, wot) then doing things. Also I love a good dance train at the tower. So the chart may not b accurate in my opinion. But what do I know I'm just at work taking a shit reading forums

Idc what they do but just don't take it out. I enjoy it at times.

Edited by Kone19ps: 3/6/2015 10:19:14 PMEven less are raiding is raiding dead too?
-
Thats cause the rng is broken in pvp. Who would play when rewards r given to the lowest person in ur team. That heavily discourage ppl from play in it.
-
24 Replieslol. Statistics have a funny way of being manipulated to serve the users' needs. The asshat that wrote this amateur article clearly has a bias against PvP and is using these numbers to make his case. You want a counter-argument? How about this: The Tower, literally the only place in the game where you cannot die at the hands of an enemy, is the place where Guardians spend most of their time. Not Strikes, or Raids, or Crucible, but The Tower. I can only surmise, after interpreting the data, that Guardians would rather shop, change their clothes and line-dance with their homies than actually play the game. Because numbers.
-
4 RepliesI thought Destiny was a PvE game anyway. PvP was just a side thing, for me at least.
-
1 ReplyI think it would make more sense to compare Crucible (PVP) to other specific activities like Strikes or Raids, individually, rather than to the whole PVE aspect of the game. I enjoy both PVE and PVP and generally my decision on what to do in the game isn't based on those factors but on which activity I feel like doing (a strike, a control match or just go relax on patrol).
-
Who ever said PVP was the main draw? No one. Ever. In all time. Someone in the know might look at that 15% and say, hey not bad and room for improvement.

Edited by jaden198: 3/6/2015 9:56:31 PMThe chart is fairly clear. The majority of players avoid pvp. A game mode that requires no leveling to enter and where a level 5 has equal chance of beating a level 32. It is, by design, available to all players before they've leveled beyond the Cosmodrome. Clearly folks prefer PVE. There's literally no reason to do it otherwise. You don't need glimmer/materials/etc. to play pvp. Sugesting that Raid is dead, based on the chart, is stupid. The requirements to raid are set in stone and quite high. As such, I'd expect raid participation to be the smallest slice of the pie. The fact that the entry level game mode, pvp, is so small speaks volumes. Now, you won't read many comments agreeing with the OP for one simple reason. PVP players, while obviously in the Destiny minority, are the most vocal. Years of fps games have taught them that being loud gets results.
