3 hits = safe, guaranteed kill
4 hits = possible, ballsy
5 hits = 4 hits + 1 shielded hit = fail
Alot of players claim they can do 5 slams, but usually they are hitting crota's shield in which they do no damage. Sometimes, crota can glitch and stay up without a shield because of lag, which is how its possible to get 5 hits. But honestly, i just do 3 hits and go for the forth if i know the timing is perfect.

Any combination of slams is fine so long as you dont enrage him early. Some players go for 4 incase they miss and need to make up for it.
As for Crota's health not going down. That is usually lag. I have the same problem when a low connection player is running the sword. From a distance, I may see 4 hits, but only 3 connect. Until you see Crota upclose and personal, then you can see the damage that was done.

Thanks for the answer :) So your saying that if I get 6 hits on the first round, 6 on the next, then go ogres, then another 6 while enrage, that I'll be able to kill him?

Eh I'm skeptical of Slevi's strategy, I run sword bearer a lot and have downed him numerous times on both normal and hard mode, my take is this: Usually it takes 15 swings to make crota enrage, therefore I try and get 14 in before Ogre room which is a 4-3, 4-3 hit count, It isn't that difficult to get him 4 times, you have to start your first swing as his shields go down leaving you time to get away (also make sure your holding up on the left joystick as you swing for faster speed) You can do 3-3, 3-3 hit count before ogres but then I believe you'll have to hit him 4-4 to kill him on the next sword. I think but wouldn't quote me on it that it takes 20 hits to kill crota, I lose track every time I bring him down. If you have trouble getting 4 hits in then I suggest picking up some orbs or kill a couple thrall before you hop up to kill crota, that way you can have your super and get a quick extra hit in.

I would get 4 hits, i just made this thread because I dont know how to get four hits generally. I dont know what Im doing wrong. Im always invisible right next to crota and hit him when they down him, then I blink strike and hit him again. But if I try to get a 4th hit in, I always die. Whether its before or after the blink strike.

The problem is usually slow connection from what I have experienced. When I have red bar players around, Crota starts to act funny. Slashing me right after I go invisible even though he looked at me for 3+ seconds. Sword disappearing. Crota getting up too early as I finish my 3rd hit. I hate to throw the red bar player under the bus, but its quite apparent from my all my crota fights.

Here are my keys as a hunter to get 4 hits in every time if you so choose to. 1.) use your super and turn invisible before you pick up the sword calling out to down crota as you hop onto the top platform 2.) as you are invisible and a barage of rockets are starting to strike crota, start to swing at him when you notice 3 or so rockets making impact as his shields are generally gone by then, or start to strike him as he's about to kneel- don't be afraid to strike earlier than you usually do, if you fail so what try again and learn. 3.) make sure you are swinging with the left joystick pointed upward, this increases swing speed 4). after you make the 4th hit drop the sword and blink strike crota BACK AWAY AS YOU DO THIS, if you brlink strike and just stand there he'll probably kill you, you have to blink strike and kind of back away at the same time, then pick up the sword. 5.) repeat step 2 & 3 6.) After the 4th hit jump away towards the platform you came up on using the mele technique with the sword to get away faster that's what I do anyway and I usually get 4 hits in evrytime, I can even get 5 if I have my super and I time everything perfectly. But the other key is making sure you know your damage output from your rocket team so you know exactly how long it takes to bring him down once they start firing, it's all about timing. Also, make sure there is someone stunning the boomers with a sniper based off what side you came in on. Good luck

Occasionally crota seems to enrage after 14 hits for me. Does this ever happen to you?

Technically, crota enrages at exactly 14.5 slam hits. Some players like to throw in a few slashes, 1 super and they mess up the count without realizing. So now you know.
