Apart from the "Because it's a game" response...
Also, Nathan Fillion's voice makes everything better.
Wow guys, I didn't expect this to become a trending topic thank you! :) There's a few good reasons in there that I'll have to scour through on my break at work, but good work everyone!

Edited by lbox87: 3/4/2015 4:13:39 PMI think the answer is in the description, "the Fallen House of Winter are raising a powerful Archon, stolen from the Prison of Elders in the Reef. Find the Archon before they fully restore his soul." I think it would be safe to assume that the fallen that rescued Aksor have already opened his cell, suited and armed him, and let him recover while still in the cell probably providing him Ether (the white crap that flies out of them when you headshot them, and crap you collect on patrol) to recover. Think of it this way, you are not letting him out of his cell, he gets out himself because it's already unlocked and he has regained enough strength to fight. Edit: Also keep in mind at the beginning of the strike, your Ghost comments that because the vex are already there, the Fallen will be prepared. I don't think it's out of the question that Aksor was already freed and armed to begin with, only he is in a weakened state. Edit 2: I like some of the theories below that Aksor was "frozen" prior to being placed in the cell, possibly as a non-lethal way of capturing someone, and then placed in the cell. the "defrosting" process has just completed as you approach the cell. Edit 3: Another good point brought up the debunks part of my idea is that if you do not approach the cell right away, it says "Release" Aksor... I think I'm lost again. Edit 4: So from what I'm seeing, it does make more sense that we are the ones releasing him when we get there (only basing this off the mission text that appears), but the previous theory still holds true about him not being at full strength, likely was armed for battle once the Fallen realized the Vex were attacking, and that he is still recuperating in the cell. I suppose my next question is why do we release him? Is killing him at the point seemingly the only way to deal with the situation?

I bet they lured him inside that pod with a trail of Ether Seeds. "Ooh, piece of candy... ooh, piece of candy... ooh, piece of candy... *SLAM*"
-
Why do you even have to fight him? Fist get your fire team together and push the capsule thing off the edge! BOOM problem solved
-
They broke him out of the cell, and put him in a new one that restores his soul. If you look at the pod, it is definitely of fallen origin because the legs look like Devil Walker legs.
-
When you got to throw a guy in a cell, who really notices if he has a huge as rifle with him? Really?
-
Its like his teddy bear i guesz
-
He made it a toothbrush, four paper clips, floss, and a toilet paper tube. You can do amazing things locked up in a cell I have heard.
-
The real question is why we decided a gun battle was the best option. Why didn't we just push his pod off the platform into the molten magnesium below?
-
Why was he locked away just to be freed from the very people who locked him up!
-
I'm more concerned why dinklebot feels the need to suddenly raise his voice at me when he announces the cell from the prison of elders.
-
Your missing the real question here. Why don't we just push it's cell off the edge or at least turn it around before he gets out?
-
*as the queen is locking acksor up Guards, "Why are you imprisoning him with his weapons?" Queen, "If you're stupid enough to let him out you deserve to die."
-
They should have had him hop out, smash a Captain and take the Captains weapon.
-
He was a trophy in the Prison of Elders so you want the complete set.
-
He hid it in his ass
-
Because the fallen did mind that we took their pikes
-
the archon priests are surgically attached to their weapons. you can't take their weapon without killing them. or, alternatively, like the guardian's ghosts. the priests have the ability to transmat weapons and ammo. The first thing the priest did after regaining consciousness, before exiting the cell was to transmat his armor and weaponry.
-
Like I said before in a previous post, he clearly was blessed by RNGesus. *drops mic*
-
why was phogoth chained up, but didn't have his face laser beam covered? seems pointless to try to contain something whose weapon is on its face and you make no attempt to protect yourself from that. oh but those chains will be super important if he decides to get angry, right?
-
It's a part of him? Idk it disintegrates when he dies so must be like another weenie.
-
Its a shrapnel gun. He made that shit like a prison shank
-
Why is that part so freakin loud?
-
How does dinklebot find your carcass, revive you and at the same time he is your ghost? how can a ghost be your ghost whilst reviving you. Are they not separate? wouldn't your ghost be trapped inside the ghost? if so, who is dinklebot? and where exactly is your real ghost?
