ATTENTION! IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONCERNING STORIES! It seems bungie.net supports a new feature that archives threads that haven't been commented on in x amount of time. I tried running a visibility test on one of my older chapters, and comments are even restricted from posting. It wouldn't surprise me if editing is locked down as well. So a few tips to you authors. Creating a ToC (Table of Contents) thread now would be a good idea, and (as much as I hate it personally) you'll have to be sure it gets comments regularly, even if it's a visibility bump. This way it keeps threads from being ARCHIVED. I guess you could always do visibility bumps for every chapter, but that seems arduous. At the very least, if your ToC stays alive, people will still be able to access the individual chapter threads, but commenting is out the window and I'm willing to bet editing can't be done. All I know is several of my chapters are archived now, and trying to find them without the directory will likely prove impossible. I don't really know how I'm going to work around this, but if you have any concerns or questions about connecting to my story's chapters, feel free to message me. For the time being, I'm going to try to find a solution to this difficulty. Additionally for you readers, if you like a particular story, even a quick comment on your favorite stories' chapter threads would help keep the Archive Brand clear from them. Essentially, this comes down to comments so that's going to be your defense authors and readers. Edit: I just tested an edit, and so far, it can be done, but to be honest the hourglass symbol over archived threads worries me. I don't know if they'll only be archived so long before getting cut from the forums entirely or not. Anyway, at the very least, editing CAN be done on archived threads. But commenting remains an impossibility.

  • As far as I know, you should still be able to copy the text and then paste it somewhere where this archiving thing doesn't reach you. At which, the only thing you'd have to do is re-post.

I've come to realize that it doesn't take very long for threads to be archived. Not more than a few months of no commenting, at least will result in a thread becoming archived. Just a week or so ago, less than a third of my chapters were archived. Now probably a third is all that remains untouched by the archive brand. And from taking a look at my group's forum, I've come to learn that a lack of activity does indeed result in the thread turning "invisible" in a manner of speaking. The individual thread itself will no longer be visible on the forums, but for those of you who have table of contents or directory threads, following the provided links will redirect people to the otherwise invisible thread. But only if you have these kinds of source threads. Without, eventually all of your chapters will disappear, assuming they're not being commented on regularly. And you will have no means of finding them again, ultimately forcing you to either forget what has been lost or repeatedly repost old threads lost to virtual oblivion. I post this here as a warning to all authors and readers. The archive brand will creep up on your chapter threads. If you don't have a ToC thread yet, I would highly recommend starting one before your individual chapter threads get absolutely buried to the point of no return. As long as you can manage one of those, even if it's that thread alone, your stories can be preserved for quite some time. Be wary everyone. This archiving feature has become we authors' worst enemy on bungie.net.

  • That's why I write in Google docs on my phone and computer ;)

  • Mine are all Google Docs and/or OneDrive as well, but the threads their respective links are on prevent any sort of commenting. I haven't favored it due to the fact that a single thread could become very cumbered with comments on all chapters, but perhaps I'll eventually have to resort to making my ToC thread's links direct my readers to the Google Docs files themselves. The other downside is I would lose all connection with the original threads that didn't only contain the chapter links, but the conversations pertaining to the chapter as well.
