I don't think anything is earned in destiny besides exotic bounty weapons and hard raid specific weapons. But I do think that some people are more deserving of an rng drop them others. I got my first gally from beating Atheon on Hard, if some guy bought his from Xur simply by saving up strange coins (which are much easier to get than doing a raid) then I feel I'm more deserving of it. I had to beat a nightfall way back when I was only level 28 or so to get my first icebreaker, so people who just bought it with weekly heroic and tiger strike coins acquired it much easier. I don't care if xur sells gally, wouldn't change anything for me, just saying how I feel.
