Multiple system connectivity issues

I have made this thread so that another topic wouldn't be flooded with unrelated comments! I have recently received some feedback from the player Popicta on another thread about issues he and his son were having connecting multiple consoles. Not being an expert on networking, I reached out to a Mentor that I saw commenting on another thread who seemed like he may have answers. You may have some too, so don't hesitate to input if you do! Here goes:
I have just made a practice of power cycling the router... For some reason whenever we are both on at home, the next time we get on there are issues with connectivity... He runs wifi and I run wired usually... If I do the static ip he can't connect at all, so the ports get jumbled I think... My router doesn't allow to forward the same ports for multiple systems/ip's
If anyone can provide some insight on his situation it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your help, Guardians!

  • If the router/modem supports it, Port Range Triggering should be enabled instead of port forwarding in the "multiple console on the same network" scenario. UPnP also may need to be enabled on the router/modem for port range trigger to work properly. For my own router, if the consoles are setup with static IP addresses, the port triggering does not work. I have to have all consoles set to get their IP address dynamically, and the router needs to be giving out the IP addresses. If the router/modem needs the specific ports specified for triggering, make sure all the ports are configured. Playstation Network/Xbox Live ports, and the Destiny specific ports. There is a list of ports the game and services use at the bottom of this help article: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/11931

    • What kind of gear do you have? Modem and router? May help a lot more. Internet provider and current dl / upload speed. If your renting equipment from cable company send it back and buy your own. I've had a huge increase in the quality of game play (less disconnect / lag) since purchasing my own and hard wiring my Xbox one. Also had to do a lot of reading / trouble shooting to get open nat type on my Xbox. I didn't think any of it would help much but it certainly does.

Sry man if u want to stop disconnecting u need to lose wifi. And don't listen to anyone who says your internet is slow. I used to play destiny and I disconnected all the time, I couldn't even get a check point without disconnecting, until I put my Ethernet cable. If you want to stop disconnecting you need the cable sorry buddy Wi-Fi is like suicide to your PlayStation or Xbox

    • I'm no expert on networking either, however if your internet speed(Download speed) isn't that fast, you can both experience issues usually dealing with connection such as someone getting booted off. Also, if your son is running off wi-fi, he could be getting the short end of the stick. Try securing a wired connection for him as well. Like I said, I'm no expert and this information might be useless, but it's something to consider.

    • Hi julesedward, I'd say if they by chance have a multi-ported modem and can both hard wire directly to it, by-passing the router all together that may be their best bet. Also I've heard from various ISP techs that a static IP is a bad idea for security reasons. Hope this helps
