Why does Truth seem to be irrelevant in Crota Hard?
When posting to recruit players for a run everyone says "Must have Gally or Hunger." Truth tracks too. Is there simply something I don't know about?

Unless you're running a void burn mission, Truth is only decent in PvE. Absolutely not worth using it for your exotic slot in PvE. Gjallarhorn and HoC are significantly better.

It takes the damage of 4.5 rockets to down Crota fired from level 32 guardians. Gjallarhorn does the damage of a little over 2 rockets. Hunger of Crota can do about the same damage of 1.5ish rockets. Long story short is that you don't need one to kill Crota. It just means it's slightly easier. I did a ce hard mode run this week with 1 level 31. The 31 was killed by a boomer at Crota when we were rotating (not a skill/experience issue at all he has a 32 playing as a 31 just meant that he was killed outright with a single hit). That left 5 of us. Every single one of us was using gjallarhorns. Obviously 2 guardians were not firing, the sword user and the Titan defender that ran up with him, but 3 gjallarhorns firing at once was more than enough to down Crota. It was overkill. Truth is still very good, it's basically a 100% guaranteed hit with a rocket and you can fire 3 shells without having to reload. In sheer damage though, the gjallarhorn and hunger outclass it.

It's usually because they don't have Gally or hunger. Truth is like the scout rifle of rocket launchers. You are more than welcome to bring it in my fireteam

13 RepliesBecause truth has proximity detonation, so it loses its impact damage from the rocket striking crota. This puts it below even a legendary 331 with tracking making it really the 4th tier choice for crota in terms of damage done and reliability. 1:Gjally 2:Hunger 3:Tracking 331 4:Truth 5: Proximity 331 6:Anything Else While it will hit, it just does less damage than other rockets and honestly isn't worth the exotic slot in crota unless you have none of the top 3 choices. Even then I'd rather bring a 331 proximity rocket and save my exotic slot for Red Death/Suros.

It really don't matter ghorn or not just bring maxed weapons. I will say the hoc don't do any extra damage to ultras just majors so any purple rocket with tracking we be just as good.

It has horse shoes so it explodes early and cause very little damage if any.

Truth would be perfectly fine. Honestly any rocket with tracking and an attack 300 or above will do the trick if you've got 4-5 players hitting Crota. But don't expect any of the idiots on LFG to realize that.

Hunger of Crota does extra damage I believe. Or does more damage for that matter.

I used Truth until I got my Hunger of Crota. It works fine. People saying it'll explode early probably don't know how to aim. Theres a long distance between the ledge and Crota, and almost all enemies are ~30 feet below your rocket's trajectory. It doesn't do additional DoT, but whatever.

6 RepliesGjallarhorn does the most damage and Hunger foes second highest because of the hive disruptor. Truth will explode early or end up tracking a thrall so its just not very useful

It isn't irrelevant. It was my first exotic and I still use it on hard crota bc I don't have gally or HoC. It doesn't matter what rocket launcher you use as long as 4-5 rockets hit crota and are followed by primary.

I think it's more about constant damage then the damage output simply because he regenerates that shield quickly. Granted you can't bring in a hunk of trash. But I think constant damage is more important. Just my opinion.

4 RepliesBecause it sometimes will turn to hit the wrong target. I have seen it go halfway to crota and make a 90 degree turn to hit a thrall below.

Because even when it does it, the proximity detonation causes it to explode early, resulting in less damage
