Hey the same happened to me and it turns out tou need one slot free in consumable inventory for it to work .Just be careful you dont pick up a codex along the way to fill empty slot.Just dscard if you do.

As per the other comments so far; it's what I'm doing right now. Getting rid of junk such as primary synthesis! :D
