I'm a lvl 32 hunter with both subclasses maxed out. I have never used the sword except for only one time. Reason is because every time I enter a raid and the first question that is always asked is if I have a good rocket... Me- "Yeah I have max gally..." Them- "yeah we're gonna need you to down crota." Also there was this one time when no one was swordbearer... Them- "Rndom you mind running sword?" Me- "Never done it but I could try." Then... "Guardian Down!" Them- "there weren't enough rockets hitting him. Rndom you have a good rocket?"
Me- "yeah I have gally maxed out." Them- "ok we need you shooting at crota..."
moral of the story is if you wanna learn to run the sword leave your gally in the vault and just leave your unmaxed suros equipped and hope they don't boot you lol.
Edit: lol I see I'm not the only one with this problem!!! Also it isn't that I don't want to try. I just don't get the chance to. Big difference.

Gjallarhorn. It is both a gift and a curse.
-
I thought it was hard, until I realized I can go invisible with the sword. Now I easily take him down in 2 swords, 4-5 kneels. Everyone should try the sword to get a better feel and experience of the raid. It's actually fun doing the raid as a sword guy rather than shooting crota down.
-
just learn to lie dude and say you dont have gally....jeez
-
I love running sword and I'm a warlock with a Max ghorn. I tell them to never touch my sword if I'm in the game lol
-
Yes there is a big difference between wanting and not getting to... But theres also a big difference between knowing how to use something and using it efficiently. Anyone can use a sword. Just slash slash swipe. Its a matter of whether the person using the sword can efficiently get up to Crota as he kneels, know how many hits they can get in based on when they went/when he kneeled, get out of the way without getting killed then go back in for more hits.
-
Because I have a Gally the team always want to find a swordbearer, never get the chance to try I need to start learning how to do it.
-
Other classes can do it, so no
-
No. I have all class and run the sword on them all Hunter not needed but surely is easier. Its about skills not class. Feel confident and try it with practice you well get it eventually.
-
as long as you help in some way, who gives a f**k?
-
No not bad at all for the sword bearer does not need always be a hunter. any class can do it.
-
Everyone in a raid has a role. If your teams have already have a sword bearer then its fine. If you are in groups on normal that don't have a sword bearer then give it a try. Most deaths by the sword bearer are caused by timing of rockets / downing crota. You won't learn if you don't try. A friend and I have a new strategy on normal. We each take the sword for one down of 3-4 hits. He takes it, hits crota, whilst I go invisible, take sword when he drops it and do second down of 3-4 hits. Just makes normal raid more fun.
-
Yes it is bad
-
I usually run sword on my Titan (normal). I wreck Crota if everyone does their part.
-
Yes, you might as well quit destiny.

Edited by FusionomaD: 2/23/2015 11:03:30 PMI have three 32's and i just soloed my first normal CE last night on my lock. First time using the sword pretty damn easy i have to say, just go in there solo and try it till you feel comfortable.

Yea just delete ur hunter. Hunters are meant for greatness, hunters always do the important things like sword holders or being that 1 guy in VoG that doesn't wipe the grp on venus teleports... You sir should be embarrassed!!!
-
I have also never successfully run sword. I'm generally better with guns than the special items (sword or relic).
-
I have all three classes at 32 and have only tried out the sword once, it was on my hunter.
-
Yeah just delete your hunter
-
My buddy runs sword on his Hunter, warlock and Titan every week. It's always funny hearing the reactions when people ask who is using the sword and he says I am and they respond oh but your a Titan/warlock.
-
I'm a 31 Hunter, and after being "raised" doing the relic in VoG, it's totally different doing the sword. I'm not the best by far, and I often make little mistakes. (Forget to blink strike, go for a 4th hit and fail terribly, etc). Thankfully my friend has enough patience to lead me through it. We finally got it done (2-manned it!) and I'm quite sad that I forgot to record it.

I have a maxed out Gally as well, but I'm almost always running sword for my fire team. I use one Heavy ammo Synth per Crota checkpoint if the Hive don't drop any, and basically help my team take down the Sworbearer by shooting at least one rocket while my team snipes him. Yeah, it sucks since the Gally was pretty much made to drop Crota quick, but not only do I get better as a Sworbearer every time we beat Crota, the people who don't have a Gally gain more confidence in themselves knowing they just beat Crota's End without having to rely on such a powerful weapon. I would also recommend finding a team that's willing to help you practice Swordbearing on Normal mode, firstly because it adds a new perspective into fighting Crota, secondly you don't have to go through the struggle of finding a good Swordbearer since you actually do get better after every completion and thirdly, as a Swordbearer myself, I'm happy to announce that it's simply A LOT of fun! Hope this was useful to you fellow guardian.
-
"Trab, can you use the sword?" "Never done it before, but what the hell" "Okay but do you know what to do?" "Yep" Crota killed in two swords. This was on normal but I was still kinda proud.
-
I tell them to get good and ill continue sword
-
Yes you are a scrub of the highest order and do not deserve to run that class. I was with a scrub pug groups with 3 32 hunters one who actually had balls to pick it up but was so miserably horrid, I snatched steel from his hand and laid waste to crota even while dropping my titan bubble on the right before I made my offensive. How hard is it to mêlée 3 times and blink strike. This is why I only inv one hunter if I'm not running the class myself.

Lol the Gjallarhorn
