Does K/D truly make a better player?
I see a lot of these "my K/D is better" post in threads especially when it's a troll war. I noticed a lot of these high K/D players are campers who tend to play only control. Now I have no problem with protecting a point but I am noticing a pattern. My play style is passive/aggressive and that is reflected in my offensive and defensive stats which are about even. I simply go to were the fighting is. My k/d is not great but I'm sick of campers claiming their greatness. If your defensive kills are double your offensive kills that's fine but anyone can sit back and wait while the skilled do the hard work.

2 RepliesThats what stats are for. You can see what weapon people use in the crucible and see whether they camp with snipers or get in the enemies face with shotguns/fusion rifles brah.

3 RepliesK/D ratios can be misleading. Take for instance the type of gamer who never really played many FPS games before. They decide to pick up Destiny and end up getting demolished in the crucible. But eventually they get better and end up averaging 2.5+ ratios every game. Problem is that they sucked in the beginning so their overall k/d ratio may only be 1.0. Someone that looks at this stat may think that they are a bad gamer but when in reality they are simply victims of stat averaging. Also, take the older gamer who has kids that play on their characters. I fall into this category. When I play I normally hit a 2.0+ ratio but my young son likes to play on my account. He usually barely averages a .5+. So my overall k/d ratio reflects this, it does not reflect MY skill level.

5 RepliesNot really. If a person only plays Rumble, then high k/d means they are good, but most matches are team games therefore damage dealt to enemies is more important than actual kills. Let us not forget the assist too. They are not tracked so they are often forgotten. One person can run in a room almost kill the entire enemy team, then let his team fire the final shots into the enemies, does that make him a bad player?

But in Destiny K/D doesn't mean squat most people I know me and my friend included purposely do bad and stay in the 3-6th places just to get loot why would I put all the effort and carry my team and get nothing while mister 0.23 with 1 kill and no caps gets Gally um no I'll just sit back make sure my team wins while still ending up below 3rd place and getting all the loot.

1 ReplyNo, objective play is what makes a good player. The way one helps their team makes a good player. Camping in an obsolete part of the map with a shotgun does not make a good player.

K/D is usually a good indication of one's skill. You'll never know though, unless you're down in the trenches with the person.

I wouldn't say k/d makes you a better person. K/d+a would be a more accurate number. W/L ratio mattes as well. When it comes down to it being a good person to others is maybe more important. Help that 27 with the nightfall or fresh VoG on normal =p

1 ReplyK/D depends in free for all K/D matters, but in games like Control it doesn't matter. You're defined by how you work with a team.

2 RepliesIdk... I mean... I usually am a passive aggressive guy and when I camp I definitely doing something and getting decent kills... But some games I run in all cocky and go like 18 and 25 and that's why my K.D is so low... I usually tend to sort of camp B flag but that's because it's do hard to recap. But I don't brag about how bad or good I am...

1 ReplyI would say yes. What else are you going to go by realistically? A higher k/d (over time) shows that a player can take out multiple targets before being taken down. Obviously this leads to a higher chance of winning in simple death match games, but it also means a player is more effective at attacking and defending objectives. You need kills to do any of it.

3 RepliesIf this was just cod or battlefield then yes k/d would be a factor. Since this discussion is about destiny, k/d does not play a big role in measuring the worth of the individual player. With the co-op value of pve for campaign, strikes, raids, and bounties, I feel a better player is measured by the amount of Time spent helping others.
