Here's an idea. Swords. Anyone who has played Halo 2-3 remembers the use of energy swords as a permanent weapon, so why can't we run around with an exotic sword on Destiny? I would start playing again if I could use a sword on this game as an exotic weapon in crucible and in normal strikes. Just let it drop as a raid weapon or something.
-Sword damage: Sword damage in PvE should be that of any normal exotic weapon. Sword impact in PvP should be extremely low per hit being the weakest of all weapons in PvP before perks. Swords should be a 3-8 hit kill in PvP according to the perks. Some perks listed below deserve a 3 hit kill while others 8. It will be up to the player to select perks for the most advantageous effect depending on their play style.
-Sword perks-
Passive: (Assassin) Run speed and shielding increased for holding a sword.
Next 3 perks (Instead of muzzle or scope options):
-Serrated edge: Increase the damage of your sword attacks, but lowers shield defense.
-Stimulant: Increase movement speed while running with the sword, but lowers shield defense and damage substantially.
-Juggernaut: Increase shield defense and movement speed, but also decreases the speed of ALL sword related animations. Damage remains unchanged.
Next perk unlock: (Guard)- Hold the "reload" button to block ALL attacks directly in front of the character. Note: "Guard" cannot block supers. Guard disables all movement but aiming movement. Guard will break when sustaining damage for 3 seconds in total. The result of a "guard break" is instant death for the user. Character cannot yet attack out of guard with attack button. Guard has a 2.5 second cool time after each use.
Next perk unlock (damage increase for PvE).
(Replaces weapon perks like "send it" etc.) Three perk options:
Great sword: Sword is increased in size and grants more damage and swing range, but decreases the speed and ALL sword related animations.
Dual wield reversed grip: Sword duplicates and becomes short and seemingly dagger like. Character holds a sword in each hand in reverse grip. Increases the speed of ALL sword related animations, but shield defense is lowered enormously.
Reversed grip: Sword is now held in reverse grip. Sword size unchanged. Sword increases shield defense but ALL sword related animations are decreased in speed. Damage remains unchanged.
-Exotic perk-
-Gaurd strafe: Character can now strafe while in guard. During guard movement speed is decreased. Character can now cancel guard by attacking.
Next four perks are PvE damage increases.
Note: Any player with an exotic sword as a primary cannot use supers or equip a secondary weapon. All character skill tree skills are disabled. Jump abilities and grenades will remain active. Character stat builds in terms of recovery, agility, and toughness remain active.
Combinations and explanations.
Serrated Edge and Great sword. Greatest amount of damage a player can have with a sword. This build ensures each hit will devastate your opponent in given time. Great for one hitting dregs and weakened players!
Stimulant and Dual wield reversed grip. The classical "ninja-assassin" weapon build. This build is for players that wish to get into the action but have a special target in mind. The movement speed will make you a hard target to hit, however your timing with "guard" will have to be spot-on to avoid a quick death due to lowered defense. Movement speed also provides a decent advantage during "guard strafe" to catch kiting gunners on the battlefield. Best 3 seconds of your life.
Juggernaut and Reversed Grip. The tank. Slow and unyielding. The worst attack speed possible. For players that want to jump into battle and survive for long periods of time. Your enemies better have a fusion rifle with a good charge time ready. May your only fear be pocket infinity, Your quickest demise.
Serrated Edge and Dual wield reversed grip. Allows for a decent mixture between damage and attack speed. Perfect for Killing mobs in sticky situations. One step under the serrated great sword in damage per second.
Serrated Edge and Reversed Grip. For those that wish to stand their ground. Defense and damage is your game. Best choice for those that have trouble with gunners or monsters kiting them all day.
Stimulant and Great sword. Funny build. Run up to a target and slowly chop away at them. Eventually. The length of the sword attempts to limit your enemies strafing options.
Stimulant and Reversed Grip. The ability to move from each location without suffering from the attack or defense deficit. Great for players attempting to "multi-role" with a sword.
Juggernaut and Great Sword. Great for those wanting to be a damage dealer, but not quite a "glass cannon" like a dual wielding stimulant user. This class becomes difficult for enemies to manage from close range due to the long sword and defense. Movement speed allows this class to catch targets attempting to strafe away.
Juggernaut and Dual wielding Reverse Grip. A dual wielding Juggernaut. Defense and attack speed remain almost untouched due to conflicting perks. Great for an all-round player-safe build for those with "learning curve" issues.
Edit: For those of you liking this thread, thank you for the support and keeping an open mind toward a new type of gameplay. Melee is by far the fastest type of gameplay I've seen on consoles today and I believe it'd be a nice way to add a little more of an adrenaline rush to Destiny!
Addition:
to those of you that think this sword could be even the slightest bit OP, I have conjured a list of ways to kill a player wielding a sword (without using a sword yourself).
#1 The Striker class Panic-Fist / Fist from above- Need I say more?
#2 The Striker class shoulder-pump- Need I REALLY say more?
#3 Golden Gun- Its a one shot kill with a large hit box and 3-4 attempts.
#4 Nova bomb
#5 Any heavy weapon
#6 Vex mythoclast
#7 Pocket Infinity
#8 No Land Beyond- The sword user clearly can't shoot you back or even kill you before you take your second shot, sooo
#9 A sunsinger in "human torch" mode- Sword user won't kill you in time.
#10 Arc blade- "This'll be interesting to see! Oh wait no it wont, because of Razors Edge!"
#11 The last Word
#12 Any shotgun with auto fire
#13 The Current plug.1 for cryin out loud!
#14 Tripmines in a tight corridor.. What? Is the sword user gonna shoot the tripmine? Naaah.
#15 Suros Regime
#16 Plan C- God this should've been higher on the list

It will funny if you can turn it into a lightsaber.
-
Sword kills should be 1-2 hits. Try hitting another player 3-8 times with your melee to see why.
-
-
If a sword is used in pvp, it's the only weapon they can carry, makes the swordbearer have to use good judgement and skill to come out of battle alive. Sword should have a super that replaces the characters current super.
-
Or have it be a super
-
Turn my Chidori into a Lightsaber!?
-
1 ReplyYeah so you have to hit them three times before they shotgun blast you or melee and shoot you. Are you trying to get everyone of those people killed in PvP?
-
1 ReplySounds like a plan

1 ReplyMaybe in the comet dlc. It would be a cool surprise.

I thought about it, but I don't want this to just become another Halo. So no. I don't want swords in my PvP.

16 RepliesEdited by Brinx Voldaren: 2/17/2015 7:23:12 PMI agree, but it would be better to simplify it a bit: The sword will be an exotic special weapon, and will be a 1-2 hit weapon because of virtually no range. The sword will be a one hit as long as it has charges left (one charge per hit) and should only hold 4 or so max in PvP. Charges are replenished with special amo. So weapon breakdown/perks: Exotic Sword: - 5 charges - One charge per hit - no charges results in 50% of weapon damage. - The sword will have a reasonably fast attack speed (like relics in pve). Perks: Lightweight : You have bonus to speed when holding this weapon. No Backpack : The sword will regenerate it's own charges, but maximum amount of charges is reduced to 2. Rage : Kills with this weapon grant a significant boost to attack and movement speed for a short time. Lunge : increased range. Then the damage increases as per usual.

3 RepliesWhy is this not trending? OP, add more tags... #destiny, #rewards. A "permasword" is an incredible idea. Always loved third person and it would bring another wonderful aspect to the game. Imagine all the benefits? Better timing for jumps and so on... The programming seems to already be there on Earth and the Moon. The mechanics of PVP could get a little tricky. In, PVP it would have to have a cool down after 2 hits. similar to a grenade or possibly a super. I would even go as far as saying to block the ability to use a sword in PVP but 100% available in PVE with perks mentioned in some of the comments. Bumpage Mcbumperson

2 RepliesI love this idea! But You can melee a player dead with two hits in crucible, the sword taking 3 or more hits to kill would just leave you to get punched down most of the time. Specially if the player has an increased melee attack speed perk.
