You never have to run for ammo, you can regen ammo switch to another gun and have ammo for that gun, it is one of the hardest hitting snipers in the game

Along those lines I have a rare sniper I kept after I found one with shoot to loot...I keep it only for those occasions I can't run for ammo when I'm out of it (ie soloing nightfalls)
