Here's a quick guide to all the ways to earn Ascendant Shards/Energy!
Daily Heroic Missions:
- Chance at Legendary Engram to decrypt and dismantle (First time per Day Only)
-Lvl 24 == 1 Ascendant Material
-Lvl 28 == 2 Ascendant Material
Weekly Strike:
- Chance at getting Ascendant Material
- Chance at getting Legendary Engram to decrypt and dismantle (First time per Week Only)
-Lvl 22 == 3 Strange Coins
-Lvl 26 == 3 Strange Coins
-Lvl 28 == 3 Strange Coins, 10 Vanguard Marks
Weekly Nightfall Strike:
- Chance at getting 9-12 Ascendant Material
- Chance at getting Legendary Gear
Weekly Raid:
- Chance at Legendary Raid Gear/Weapons (I don't suggest dismantling as this is the best gear in the game)
- Chance at Ascendant Material
Vanguard Tiger Strike Playlist:
- Chance at Legendary Engrams to dismantle
The dailies/weeklies can be done for each character. The harder the difficulty the more Ascendant materials you get for completing.
Public Events:
- Every event you do gives a chance for Ascendant Mats or a Strange Coin
- The first public event you do in a day has a guaranteed Ascendant material that you pickup from the Postmaster.
Dismantling Legendary Gear: (Non-Repeatable Gear ex: Queen's Wrath/ Iron Banner doesn't work) You are guaranteed to get a variable amount of shards. A guaranteed way to get shards is to earn marks from vanguard and crucible, take the marks and buy a cheap purple item I think the cheapest are about 65 marks. Then dismantle it. You can earn enough marks to get two a week per character.
Crucible: Crucible matches have a chance of dropping Ascendant Mats as a reward.
This makes for around 9 guaranteed Ascendant shards per week with the possibility of getting more. Which is enough for a Legendary upgrade which cost around 6 shards each. This is for one character. If you do this with all three characters you have a guaranteed 27 Ascendant shards per week or 4 legendary upgrades per week.
I'll update with more detailed info in regards to the numbers once I get home or if someone gives more information in the comments.
