Are you insane? This is a suicide mission!” The room was quiet. Everything was eerily still. The guardians outside the room had frozen still and were watching us. Even Cayde-6 had stopped pacing. “First of all,” Began Zavala, “we don’t even know where Wolf is. He could still be alive. Second, it is your duty to push back the darkness and rescue the light. The more guardians alive and in action we have the easier that will be. Wolf was one of the best. This isn’t a suicide mission. It’s a rescue mission. You knew when you accepted the Speaker’s request to defend the city it would be dangerous. This is the same deal. We know nothing about Europa so you will be flying dark. This unknown enemy is undoubtedly dangerous and we know little about them so again, you are in the dark. But even the smallest flame can deplete darkness. We need you. The city needs you. Wolf needs you. We picked you two because you both work together so well. Now we need you to work together to save a fellow guardian. Are you up for it?” The question hung in the air for a moment. I looked at Jackal. Throughout years of fighting we’ve developed a special brotherhood. In that single moment our minds worked as one. “We accept.” In unison we both agreed to step out of the light and into the shadows, the unknown. There was no turning back. “Perfect,” Ikora clapped her hands together. “now of course you will need provisions, who knows how long you will be out there. The temperature on Europa is -52℃ in the summer.” “What is it now?” Asked Jackal. “Winter. So your armor will need thermal upgrades if you don't want to freeze to death. You can run by the guardian outfitter to grab that. You will need this.” Ikora handed me a card about the size of my palm. “Good luck.” Zavala nodded. Vaguely I thought I heard Cayde speak. I wasn’t sure but it sounded like, “You’ll need it.” After stopping by Eva’s place. Jackal and I split up to attend to our separate needs. I went to the gunsmith to stock up on synths of every kind. Banshee was kind enough to give me a discount. He knew what we were about to attempt. In fact, it seemed like everyone in the tower knew what was going on in less than ten minutes. As I passed guardians they would pat me on the back and say things like, “Good luck.” “Chance of a lifetime. Europa? If only.” I felt like a celebrity. And I have to say, I kind of liked it. I ran my hands through my spiked blonde hair and waved to a group of new guardians. They just stood dumbstruck in awe of me till I passed. Then they turned around and talked with each other, “That’s the guy going to Europa!” “Wish I could go there.” “You wouldn’t last five minutes there.” They proceeded to banter with each other until I couldn’t hear them anymore. A crowd has gathered at the area where we will leave from. I see Jack standing on the platform waving at a few girls. Always the ladies man. “You ready?” Jack turned to look at me. “Let’s get this party started.” Our ghosts appeared. You sure about this? “Yes Diadom. These people need us. Besides, we can hardly back out now that we’ve accepted the mission.” My ghost made a strange noise which I assumed was the ghost equivalent of a frown. I looked at Jack and he nodded. A thunderous noise sounded overhead as our jumpships zoomed down across the sky. I have to say it was pretty spectacular seeing this huge crowd screaming and cheering with jumpships zooming from the sky. It almost made me forget that we were attempting a suicide mission. Almost. The world dissolved around me and i felt a sense of weightlessness about me. The sky disappeared replaced by light. Dozens of colors. All of them streaming towards me in a torrent of beauty. The ground beneath my feet evaporated and I felt as if I were rising. Energy flowed around and through me. It was incredible. This was what I loved about being a guardian. The swirling dance of void, arc, and solar light all combining to create a masterpiece of beauty, encompassing the past present and future into one vortex of color. Deadly color. With a thud I slammed into the cockpit seat of my jumpship. Gravity returned and the euphoria of the pure light disappeared. I was back in our universe. I clicked the com button on the ship’s control panel. “Jack you there?” Immediately I received a response. “Landed alright. You ready for this?” “I was born ready.” I hoped I sounded more confident than I felt. “Alright Jack Burton.” “Who?” “He was a person long ago before the golden age. He… never mind.” That was fine with me. I couldn’t stand Jack’s never-ending rants about life before the Golden Age. Then again, almost all Warlocks were obsessed with useless information. Who cares about whatever Star Wars is? “Alright we are passing the reef now. Wanna make a stop at the Queen’s place?” Jack was just making conversation. “Not if she’s gonna kill us. Which she probably would.” “More like her brother would.” Continuing this way for a few minutes we blasted off into the solar system on our way to Europa. Hope you enjoyed here's chapter 3 Chapter 3
