I was just thinking of ways to move forward when it comes to how to handle gear going into the House of Wolves DLC. A lot of hate was thrown at Bungie because of how the VOG gear became obsolete. It was deserved mainly because there really shouldnt be any reason that Vanguard gear should exceed raid gear. Im not sure if I agree yet with Raid gear being on level with Exotic gear. I still feel like the light level for exotic gear should be 3 light above Raid and 6 light above Vanguard/Crucible gear. That way there is room for variety in characters. There is just too many people running around looking the same.
You could have a scenario where you have Crucible leg armor that is 33
Exotic Cheat that is 39
Raid arms that is 36
Raid Helmet that is 36
Or
All Raid at 36
Or
Crucible Helmet at 33
Exotic arms at 39
Raid chest at 36
Raid legs at 36
Im sure there are more choices
When it comes to House of Wolves There should be a form of upgrade to turn Crota Raid gear into HoW level gear. With the additions of the new gear you now have even more variety with outfit choice.
You guys can even level up the VOG difficulty so that gear is at least 33 light and now you have EVEN more variety.
Just my thoughts on how to keep things fresh and make people feel more unique when they play with others.

To be honest. Once a new raid comes out, with the new gear to get you to the maximum light level, the only real reason for doing the older raids is for other gear. As such, limiting certain items to drop in certain raids, plus an increase of the harder to get gear (legendary/exotic) is all that will keep people playing older raids. The balancing act is making the older raids have better chances of good drops than the new raid, this will mean that you do the new raid for light level boosting raid gear, and the older raids for exotic armour and weapons.

All they need is a way to transmute the way armor looks, combine the armor you like with the armor that's stats you want and boom. Everyone looks how they want to look.

You are still making VoG gear slightly weaker in your idea. Why not make it so you have the option to make all raid gear equal?

I believe there should be upgrade modifiers for armor, like the perks change from Xûr. Maybe it would be fair to have some special drops from any Vanguard/Crucible activity that could add capabilities or specials plus light levels to legendary armor via Xûr or some other new vendor from the latest DLC, or through quests à la Eris Morn.
