We all care about the stuff you make. (For Bungie & Community)

We do. I hope you know that. Understand that the hate you are getting for this game comes from the fact that you guys (Bungie) have made some great games. The expectations were and still are unfathomably high. You guys are Indiana Jones.. and he was always in over his head. Every time deeper than the last. But what does Indy do? He perseveres. He over comes his enemy. Community.. This is Bungie in act one. This is where the protagonist encounters the antagonist. It's us. No way around it. We are the enemy... and we really want to be beaten. We want everything that you have Bungie. We are jealous of you. We envy you... and we hate you for how good you are. Bungie.. if you made crap throughout the years and came out with Destiny.. people would have a different outlook. You haven't. Sadly you have made some games that will stick with people forever. Master Chief is as wonderful as cinema characters brought to life by great actors. He doesn't even say much, but his actions.. what you let us do with him.. is something every gamer wants to be. A Hero. I think most people when asked about this type of game would applaud you for even trying. I know I do. I think this is what is exactly needed for an FPS. I have been putting in a lot of time playing.. between work and social activities, I find comfort in knowing I have other Guardians to go join and accomplish tasks. But I'm sure as hell not writing this to blow sunshine up your butt. (OH GREAT, says bungie, WE KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO COMPLAIN) (OH PERFECT, says the community, ANOTHER KNOW IT ALL WHO THINKS HE... knows it all..) I'm not complaining. Sometimes when I play Crucible I complain but well.. thats online FPS multiplayer for you. I've waited till now to speak my mind so there is some weight to this. My feedback is in no way asking for the world.. I think we just all what we are used to with you guys. Maybe you made us greedy with your earlier games. IDEAS FOR A BETTER TOMORROW! -Glimmer: Why does it have a cap? This is the most perplexing thing in the game. No MMO game has ever had a cap on how much currency you can hold. It's silly and annoying. Any Guardian that not massing a small fortune to save the universe is doing it wrong. -Quit playing head games with my heart: You can make your face at the start of the game. Open a vendor that takes Glimmer, Coins, Motes.. or make it time based.. whatever you deem necessary. Where we can change everything (except class) about how we look. The full gambit.. Race, Sex, Hair, Markings... It would make a TON of Guardians happy. -Bring back that swag: You are the king of multiplayer. SWAT, CTF, ODDBALL...MULTI TEAM (Yum!) ROCKET RACE (Super YUM!) You have been there done that. Dont tease us with content in the distance. The PvP is boring not because of gameplay.. but game modes.. they are all shadows of the other. Use that Noggin and get us some interesting PvP that makes us think about you at work... or after making love. (if its during you're doing it wrong.) -Characters we care about: You have THREE awesome Guardians that stand around a table and do nothing. Where are the fun moments with them? Where is the Camaraderie? Noble Six was more interesting and he didnt talk. You create games like ODST and Reach, with these fun, interesting characters that make us upset and feel things when they die... to a bunch of defending missions. -A Hero we deserve.. and need right now: GTA had three main chracters that had personalities. I use this to compare because of game cost and you have three races. Why dont they act differently. I was so sure that when my third character.. an AWOKEN was in that cut seen with other Awoken they would have brought it up.. guess not. Give them personalities. Please. Make us care about the characters we have. You obviously know you cannot make everyone happy. You never will. You will lose people... but you can become better with that in mind. You made this for us.. for yourselves. You made this because you love it, not to break certain dollar marks. You planed this game years in advance to make us happy. I wish more people could see that. TL;DR Get down to brass tacks. Fix the minor issues that make the game cumbersome. It's the Future. Lets have it feel like it. Futuristic Plastic Surgeon/Barbershop vendor person place.. that also sells noodles (I'm hungry.) Give us some great story. Make us feel something (other than frustration) I'm not going anywhere, I am excited to see what you do. You had me at Assault on the Control Room. I love you Bungie.

      • A very well thought out and eloquent piece Madmartigan. I hope Bungie reads this, not just because of your suggestions on how to better their game, but to realize that there are people enjoying it. Like you said, most of the feedback on forums and videos has been a bit negative. But the numbers don't lie. Millions of people log on every week. Bungie must be doing something right. You can tell they put a lot of work into this game but again, yes there are flaws, and so many areas of the game that almost reach greatness. But this is where I stray from your opinions a bit. I see Destiny, as we play it today, as a trial run of sorts. Sure Alphas and Betas should be the forum for this type of experimentation, but early tests and game builds can only go so far. There's no way of knowing exactly how your game with function when the servers are crammed with millions of people and how players interact with each other when given access to the full game. I personally enjoy the simplicity of the character creation and customization. I like that there are basically four multiplayer modes that, in reality, mirror each other's mechanics. I love that there are a handful of missions and strikes on each planet. I guess what I'm saying, is that I've always considered myself as a bit of a casual gamer. Not by the hours I put into each game, because there are certainly years of my life that have been spent in virtual universes. But by my ability as a player. I can never get away from the fact that I will never be as good as you Madmartigan. And I'm okay with that. Every match, you destroy people. Consistently. I never had that. Sure I'll have a good run every now and then, maybe grab that first place spot on the roster. But I never feel like I get any better. My skill improves to a point where I just can't overcome my faults as a gamer. I always want to be faster, more accurate. I see Destiny, as it stands today, as an introduction. Just enough material to experience it, to get used to the game and how it plays. To hone your skills. And I appreciate that. It gives me a chance to learn and to improve my skill because let's be honest, while every FPS is certainly bound by the same restrictions and mechanics, each is completely different from one another. I'm at a point in my life where I don't have as much time to spend in front of a screen with a controller in my hand. My time is more valuable and I have to use it wisely. I need to really be into a game in order to want to play it every day when I get home. I thought I was gone. I felt like no game would ever suck me in again. I just couldn't get into anything. I remember when Assassin's Creed III came out and I was really excited for it, but when I played, just a couple of hours, I felt overwhelmed and lost. When a game is too big and lets you do pretty much whatever you want, it's not fun anymore. A game needs focus. It needs to guide the player through it. Don't get me wrong, freedom to make choices and do what you want is pivotal in games these days, as it should be. And Destiny marries linear missions and choice pretty well. Sure the story lacks a bit of humanity and emotion. And I get tired of doing the same strikes day in and day out. And the Crucible is lackluster and needs more interesting game modes. You're frustrated by this Madmartigan because you've already done it all. You've achieve the level cap (probably by now) and you own face in Crucible. But for me, it helps me get my bearings. And the thing that keeps me coming back, is imagining what they'll do next. You travel to a planet where you can play a handful of missions. But what's on the other side? What about Mercury? Where else can we go? What else can we do? I'm excited for the future. Bungie doesn't want to show all of their cards just yet. They're still testing the waters. Sure there are a lot of shortcomings of this game and many areas to improve on. But I think they will. And if it's slow going, I'm ok with that. I need to get better.
