  • I just hope they remove the lunge of 15 feet with regular meele.... *Sighs* And if they reduced that, you'd make it sound as if the BR would overwhelm the AR. The BR is a over powered weapon to begin with. It's a sniper rifle with reduced range. :/ Instead of having a BR and AR caculation of hit points or whatever, you need to realize that, four shot kills for BR's fall into Head Shots, and the AR is just a body shooter. So if the shield goes down and your both trying to kill each other and one guy meeles, it's usually from a moderate distance of five to ten feet, and then that ungodly lunge decides who wins. But the shield if non-exisistant would give the BR wielder far to much of a advantage, DING head shot. The Meele just needs to have that lunge factor removed. Thats the most agrivating thing on Halo 3 at the moment. Besides the annoying chirping 8 year olds. [Edited on 02.09.2008 8:25 AM PST]

  • I have another suggestion for the melee problem. When the two players are within the 26.5 threshold in melee contest, instead of killing the two players, set the player’s body health to 14 points. When two players melee with swords, the swords “clash.” Why not allow for gun clashing in a normal melee? It would be entirely believable that the two players could “block” each other’s melee, therefore reducing the damage effect. Why reduce the body health to 14? Instead of letting the engine decide who dies, give the players another chance to make the kill. Let’s look at an AR vs. BR situation. The BR holder would have to land all three shots, or make a head shot to make the kill. If the BR holder lands only 2 bullets out of the 3 in a burst, it wouldn’t be enough to kill the other player. This would be fair since the BR can spit out three bullets much faster and more accurately than the AR. The AR holder would need to land 2 shots in order to finish the opponent. Two shots may be no big deal, but the AR fires much slower than the BR. If the BR holder misses one of the three bullets or is a little slow to make the first shot, the AR holder has plenty of time to make the kill. This would provide some balance between the two weapons during this sort of contest. This way the killer and the killed are ultimately determined by the players’ skill and reaction time. In the event that the two players melee each other again after reducing each other’s health below 14, the health of the players would remain unchanged.

  • Thank you, MuffinRage. Anyway, I just wanted to say to those of you who believe we are only getting two maps in the next DLC... We are really getting three. Originally we were supposed to get O.K. Corral, Cottonball, and Purple Reign. However, Purple Reign was delayed because, according to Bungie, it wasn't going to be ready. But, in its place, we are instead getting Moonlight Sonata, a map that was announced last weekly update. The update said the map will be universally loved. So, in the end, we are not getting just two maps. We are getting three. Hopefully this will clear up some of the confusion.

  • That's all I was hoping for. Melees are a fixed amount of damage, if they occur near simultaneous, they should both do their set amount of damage, and if it's enough to kill, it does. This is why we love you guys at Bungie so much. You listen to your users, and if they have a legitimate complaint you work hard to try and resolve it. Thanks for being the best gaming studio out there. Also, thanks for going in to so much detail about how the previous and existing systems work. Instead of just telling us it was more fair in H3 than it was in H2, you guys finally explained why.

  • good to see them fix the melee, and good to see things like Double team BR's coming around but what about the BR spread damn it? movement speed? those two things are hugely important into making halo 3 not a piece of crap. these new maps need to be really good, but chances are they wont be.

  • WOW this melee "fix". Sounds like you guys are just kicking something while it's already down. It's basically the same as before except "for an added bonus" you can both die instead of one of you winning. I can't tell you how many people will be pissed after being killed at the same time as the other player. THIS IS EXTREMELY -blam!-! So much worse than what it was.

  • Hmm...sounds better, but I'm still not convinced its much better than the unpolished turdling that the meele system is at the moment. Halo 2's meele system worked fine. If it aint broke, don't fix it. Obviously I'll have to see for myself how well it plays but if it's still poor, I'm selling Halo 3 and at least getting [i]some[/i] of my hard earned money back. I'm fed up with it.

  • Exactly why I left. Getting -blam!- over EVERY SINGLE Melee does NOT make it a fun game. Sure, I will come back to play for a while after the update but if it is -blam!- my disc is getting frisbied across my room and CoD4 will take back its rightful home (in my disk tray).

  • Huzzah! Melee Fix :D I hope the release of the AU brings a lot of the 'disenfranchised' halo players back... I know I will be playing more regularly once it is up. Halo just wasn't fun anymore, but hopefully that changes!

  • No, it should be 300 at least. OR they could add an option to matchmake only with people from your country. "Best Connection" is not always best connection. A while ago I was playing LW on BC and had a hefty 3 minute respawn time which cost me the game. Wouldn't happen in CoD4 as you decide when to respawn. [Edited on 02.09.2008 1:39 AM PST]

  • Nice you made a "fix"... The melee is still too strong, IMO (friends' opinion too) it should take average 3 hit to kill the opponent, the weapons would ofc affect how many hits, like the magnum would 4 or so. I predict that after the AU there'll be alot funny videos where people [b] trade kills [/b] again and again... EDIT Who said 100ms is bad? Only elitist think that. I played BF1942... most server had 250ms or so, that was around average, and that was rather good. If you got to server which had 150ms... 150ms-250ms is nothing IMO, i can play those fine. OK i know, Halo i alot faster game than BF so less latency IS ALOT BETTER but thinking that latency must be <50ms is ridiculous... go play LANs if you want as low latency as possible. EDIT2 ... who decided that 100ms is used in melee calculatios (or so... need to hurry writing)????? 200 it should bE! [Edited on 02.09.2008 1:35 AM PST]
