The speaker arrived the same time the traveler did and instantly formed a council. if he was going to betray us he would likely have become a dictator not an adviser to the council. But he could betray us. It is more likely that he is an aspect of the travelers light similar to Paul from the Bible (hate to use religious examples) Paul spoke as a vessel of God. God spoke through him to deliver messages to the world. (not like a possession mind you but closer to a voice guiding his actions and speech)
