My opinion is the spoiler to avoid skewing the results.
I see all over these forums people mentioning their K/D like it makes their argument more valid. I think a good argument should stand on it's own regardless of who is giving it. I just want to get the Communities opinion on this. It's my hope that most people judge an argument by its reasoning not by the stats of the person making it.
You are aware that this is not a yes or no question, correct?
-
K/D only matters in Call of Duty. Then again, your K/D determines your level of skill or what type of player you are, even if society doesn't want to believe it does.

Edited by Doc SoCal: 8/27/2014 9:30:43 PMIn a war of stats I suppose. Opinions are opinions, facts are facts.. Arguments are generally started by the former and settled by the later. #generallyspeaking
-
Edited by Hiatus: 8/27/2014 9:33:20 PMIt depends on what is being discussed and KDRs relevance to the discussion.
-
Wins only. K/D don't mean shit if your the capturer in CTF/Control.
-
This is the internet. Need anything else be said?
-
It's also good to point out that a valid argument is not necessarily a true argument.
-
In control K/D played a large part. Generally those with negative kd's lost more. But no, KD does not make an argument more valid. If kd is relevant to the argument then it may.

Edited by Synthiate: 8/27/2014 9:49:15 PMThe stubborn people who quit games only to maintain their K/D (Who probably have some of the highest overall K/Ds), I reckon, have so much stubbornness that their arguments are often hastily put together and thus weak. Behind an argument is always flesh and bone, not anything else.

With Destiny I vote for Grimoire > Wins > KD. Completing the Grimoire takes dedication. Some people simply do not have the skill to get a good KD or the luck to win every game. But for the Grimoire you need dedication most of all. Sure, you need the skill to kill enemies. But also just dedication to kill them time after time after time until the Grimoire is finished. And with dedication comes wisdom. And wisdom is needed in discussions.

If someone brings up K/D in any argument whatsoever it instantly becomes apparent that what comes afterwards is just egotistical boasting about how a number makes them immediately smarter than the other person
-
I think pizza is delicious, but my K/D is very low. So what I say doesn't hold much weight.

Wins or KD don't mean shit whatsoever towards someone argument. I don't see how that could make any sense in the situation. Might I respond to all the people who didn't understand the meaning of this thread that thinks this thread is asking if KD equals skill. TheSmoker is asking if peoples stats effect the validation of their argument, which clearly doesn't. But to add on to the KD= Skill thing, in my opinion it depends on your primary gamemode. If you happen to be that type of player who only plays objective gamemodes and only plays objectivly in them and your KD is low, it doesn't mean you suck, it just means you like to go for the objective. However KD does show some skill between players, obviously would you rather have the guy with the 0.30 kd on your team or the guy with a 2.56 in a Team Deathmatch or whatever Destiny calls it.
-
In some context, yes. I'm not going to consider someone's advice on how to win seriously if they have a .7 KD. If someone is giving an opinion on whether or not something is unbalanced, I also look at their KD, but that is more subjective.

What is the argument?
-
I think it can help, but its not something people should fixate on too much.
-
It's all about the amount of shaders one has. One must look fabulous at all times.
-
No, because its usually followed pretty rapidly by an epeen measuring contest..
-
If their argument is that they are good at a game, sure.
-
The only reason I could see it being valid is if they were stating that (insert thing here) didn't need to be nerfed and they had a high k/d with said thing. This would show that a skilled player could use it effectively. But that is usually not what people use K/D to prove sadly.

a pissing contest is a pissing contest

K/d really has nothing to do with how good one is in PvP, or in general for that matter. In the beta my k/d was ridiculously high. Like 120/1. But then I started exploring. And when I made a million attempts to get past the ?? Level enemies, I got smoked and it was like 25/1. Does not mean I was all of a sudden a bad player, I was just trying some different things. Or in a ctf game type, one May spend all match running for a flag and not worrying about kills, and would have a much lower k/d than someone who played the same game, did not cap any flags, and had 10 kills. K/d means nothing!
-
Value wins over k/d every time. It's a team game.

I see people saying "I don't talk to people who have a KDR of less than 2.0," and I just want to throttle them through their screens. Of all the things that qualify a person to speak their mind, their ability to keep their kill count higher than their death count hardly makes the high end of the list. Hell, someone can spend the majority of their time camping and get a positive KDR, would you call them "MLG PRO?" I think MLG has a very valid home in the gaming industry. I do NOT think that being a part of it makes you entitled to anything, or somehow "better" than some people. It's a game, people. Take it seriously if you must, but don't bring down people who are just trying to have fun.
and because I can predict the future, I know the typical response is "sounds likes someone is butthurt about his shitty KDR." I'm really not. I own up to my .9. I like pvp, I play pvp with friends to have fun, I just like to adhere to Wheaton's Law, and you should too.
I love how battlefield has the "score per minute" ranking. That's how it should be, that separates the campers from the dudes actually out there whooping ass and getting their ass whooped and capping flags. K/D is just a personal thing for me. I enjoy math!
