In about a year I'll be in the market for another one. Just about to close on my house, which has two garages, so I'll finally have space to do some minor work on my car (daily driver) and break down and rebuild my truck (project vehicle). I'm not sure what I'll get next. There's talk of doing a PAX road trip next year from the mid-west and I've been thinking of getting an E150 line to fix up and outfit for the trek.

  • Is a good car that came with few miles. I don't really like any modern cars, add they all seem to be made like shit nowadays, plus I don't need a car payment while paying off student loans and a mortgage.

  • Fair enough, but don't diss modern cars. They have more tech but on a while they're still pretty reliable.

Except the sensors cause more issues than the problems they are designed to monitor, the engine bays are so packed you can barely change plugs anymore, and the drive-by-wire systems are causing a stupid amount of issues in almost every manufacturer

You can still do your own work, you just have to take off more plastic covers. It really isn't that bad. It's a bit of a misconception that new cars are impossible to work on. Some things are a bit harder but basic fluid changes are just as easy if not easier in some cases. While I don't like new cars as much(lack of mechanical feel is a negative to me) but they're better built, more efficient, and much safer. Also drive by wire throttles do have some pros.

  • Based on the recalls going on, I would argue some of that. The nearly complete digital control of engines is causing a lot of problems where there wouldn't be with analog or mechanical control.

  • Manufacturers are quicker to recall things now days thanks to things like the GM fiasco. It's honestly probably a better thing. Even mechanical cars have problems. Seriously new cars on a whole are better. They have new tech but there are teething issue with new tech all the time. I use to think like you but I opened my mind up did a lot of reading and found out that new cars are great. They're faster and more efficient. There's amazing tuning options out there and more. Really it's one of the best times to be a car enthusiast.

  • I'm no stranger to working on cars. And the only bad modern cars are from the lady few years, leaving plenty of obd2 years to upgrade. There's just no reason to have no physical disconnect to disable the engine (like Toyota Corollas a few tears back) or air bags not deploying without computer control (like gm's royal screw up). And I don't trust recalls. They can take up to years to resolve.
