Sony WILL make EST wait until PST, transcript inside
So there's the transcript from my conversation with an online rep. I highlighted my questions in yellow and their response in green.
They issued me a refund without hesitation. Guess I'll be visiting Wally World at 12 AM EST.

Since there are so many nitwits on these forums, I felt I needed to add this. My reason for canceling the digital order was so that I could play at midnight my local time with friends that are buying the disc. It had to do with the fact that waiting until 3 AM would've changed the release plan WITH FRIENDS that's been in place for a while now.
So please in the name of Al Bundy, quit assuming that people in EST want to play "before everyone else" or "you can't find shit to do till 3 AM you're pathetic" or all of the stupid other crap some of you guys are saying.
Think of it like this. You're invited to an unreal New Year's Eve party. Unfortunate for you, your 94 Civic broke down and the next cab isn't available until 3 AM. According to you smart azzes in this thread you wouldn't give a rats azz cause it's only 3 hours. You watch the ball fall from home, drink alone, and show up to the party at 3 AM.
You show up, hot chicks have been claimed, booze is dried up, and party poppers have been popped. You missed the midnight fun with your friends. Always next year I guess.
TL:DR - It's not about getting to play early, before anyone else, or world firsts. It's about playing with friends and experiencing the launch. A guy below gave a good example. Imagine starting xmas, Halloween, Easter, or whatever 3 hours late. Sure you can do it but it's not much fun.

4 RepliesDon't understand the difference between having either the digital or the disc? Don't be smart and say "oh one is digital with no disc and the other has a disc!"....... Lol. That I know, but both have to run through Sony hardware and the psn network to install, update and play so why lock the digital version to 12am pst and not both versions? Maybe psn isn't letting any version access the game until 12am PST! Just a thought.

2 RepliesIt would be very smart of Sony to come out with a statement that says (and Sony allows) if you pre ordered and pre loaded via PSN, you can play at 12:00 am UTC+14:00. This will send a flock of people to cancel their GameStop orders and purchase via PSN.

23 RepliesThis applies ONLY to [b]digital versions[/b]. The problem here isn't the Destiny servers. They will be online when the US is experiencing Monday morning. The issue is the release of the digital download. PS4 software requires a certificate to run. You can download the software itself first. But the certificate doesn't become available for automatic download until PSN allows you. That will occur at midnight PDT. So you don't actually have a copy of the game, even if you pre-download, until you get the cert. Anybody with a legit copy will be able to play as soon as they get it.

Doesn't affect me one bit. I won't be able to play until 5pm EST anyway, I have to work in the morning... vacation time is running low... time to conserve.

Its probably due to the ease of faking your online location nowadays, would be easy to get it sooner digitally by just running a program to make it look like you are somewhere the game has already been released.

2 RepliesMy biggest question is... 3 hours? you simply CAN NOT wait three hours to play Destiny? What exactly do you hope to gain from those three hours? no matter how hard you aspire to be the first to play the game, you won't be. For starters, people in GMT will be playing far before any of us Americans. Then there is the fact that I'm sure dev's will be the first to set boots on the ground. I'm getting my copy in the mail, with a PS4, which I'll have to hook up first. I'm honestly not too bothered by that, because as long as I get it launch day, I know that whatever time I "lose" on launch day, can be made up later, since I have all the time in the world to play it, while others get on with their "lives" :P

9 RepliesIt's messed up. Sony is going to lose some huge stacks of money when the word on this gets out. Along with bad PR !! And lots of angry phone calls to tech support at 12 am (eastern) from folks that didn't know !! And future financial loss from all eastern gamers that Will NEVER preload digital games again !! And folks that find out in the next few days and cancel and change orders to gamestop for the midnight parties !! And whatever else I'm forgetting.

I work early, so no midnight launch for me. I could go in later, but really, what's a couple of hours. As has been stated, the game isn't going anywhere.

Huh, so you digitals get to pre-load the game but the hard copies get midnight access. I guess it's to prevent people from playing before midnight since the servers will be live before then? IDK.

Holy shit. Second, Sony refunded your money no problem, so that is nice considering they state "CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS ARE NOT AVAILABLE EXCEPT WHERE REQUIRED BY LAW."

It releases at midnight, when most people with regular jobs will be sleeping, and it's not like it won't be there when you wake-up / get home from work. Not to mention I expect server issues on launch, the game probably won't be running with stability for a few days.
