When did I get so old?

I am 38 and I have been playing video games longer than most of you have been alive. I see everyone telling their age which seems to be the early 20s for the most part. Most everyone I know does not playing video games, but I have not been this excited about a game since Halo 2 or KOTOR. Anyone else in the same boat? Edit: I am amazed at all the responses. Thank you all. See all of you on the 9th. Xbox One: pepelewe

I had really lost all hope in these forums until this thread. Every post is just the rantings of immature people complaining about this or that or worst yet trying to start a fight for no reason what so ever. Sure some might say that's what forums are for but they are just part of that group I just mentioned. It was nice to see people just posting well written things and being nice to each other for a change. That being said if there are any people that were apart of this thread, that are on PS4 and looking for a group to do raids with my clan is only at three right now and apparently you need six. A little about us, none of us play Crucible but have no issues if you do. We welcome both men and women gamers as right now we have two guys and a girl. We are all friends, we play for fun and never take our game playing to seriously. Find us in clans under Jasper Newton.

    • 45 y.o. here, and I feel much the same, but I've also lived long enough, through enough Bungie game releases (starting with Halo 2), to have some perspective on the way these forums morph and change, and the way the forum dwellers come, go, and adapt (if they stay). I was not at all excited about Destiny, didn't even preorder, and then the Beta opened freely to Xbox 360 players, so I had to give it a try. In moments I was sold. It looked like a classic science fiction book cover or painting. It played like Halo, but somehow even smoother, more fluid, more...RIGHT. I've since preloaded the Digital Guardian Edition for Xbox One, and will be getting a Limited copy for the 360, as I have friends (over at Sword & Shield Gaming) who play both. It's good to meet you, Guardian. See you on the 9th.

    • I'm 34, been playing a looong time. First game was Space Invaders on the Atari 1600. Very excited to get involved in this 'type' of game again (not gonna call it an MMORPG haha) Going to take my time as I did with all the others I played and enjoy myself in the limited hours I'm going to make available for myself. Add me PS4 - Diabolu80 Chris ;)

    • I know how you feel. I'm 26, but my friends didn't believe I was even over 18... Born in '88, grew up playing Super Mario Bros 1, 3, and Sonic the Hedgehog. I still enjoy them, but I'm a HUGE gaming geek, and always will be! All this talk of ''This sucks'', ''That game is terrible'' and my fav, ''I got bored of it easily'' is something that makes me cringe... Sure, people can't enjoy every game like others, but there's joy to be found and had in every game if done with others. Stupid, silly moments at 3 in the morning with friends laughing at random stuff is what makes everything so much better! Enjoy the gaming life, and the company of other gamers as well. =)

    • I hear you. My first home gaming console was . . . Pong. I haven't been this excited for an action-adventure game since <see above link>. These whippersnappers don't know how good they have it. We used to get excited about games when our character was a freaking square, a square! A game where I can design my own character, travel to 4 planets, play and talk with friends 1,000 miles away? Yes, please. Young trolls and whiners: please compare the dragon in the video above to the dragon in the new Destiny trailer; also take a hard look at the character models. Complaining about multiplayer and matchmaking? Please look up Atari 2600 Combat on youtube if you want to see how good we have it now. There are always minor things to fix or improve, but learn to enjoy the fun. My favorite is pre-ordering at Best Buy. "Is this for your kid?" Um, sure. Once a gaming geek, always a gaming geek, even at 41.

27 here. I started as a little girl at the age of 3 and will be playing games until the day I die. Before that my mother would sit me in her lap while she played Zelda on the NES. It isn't childish to have an overactive imagination and to enjoy playing video games. Everyone else is just boring. I am positively giddy waiting for this game.

I knew I was old one day when driving and I heard the Alien Ant Farm cover of Smooth Criminal on the radio. I said to myself "That is a pretty good cover of a classic song from my youth". Then the realization that songs from my youth are now classics hit and I knew I was old.

Who's in their mid forties like me and is absolutely stoked about September 9th? Luckily my four off days from work starts at 5pm Monday afternoon. I'm seriously considering taking some hours off the next shift but I most likely won't and will save that time for the end of the year. I however find myself inundating myself with the Destiny soundtrack; all 1:09:03 minutes; from someone who has it on YouTube. How obsessed is that?

                • I'm 18 and my dad is 41 and he games. But he disowned Halo after Halo 2 cause he hated the flood and he got me KOTOR (which I've actually just restarted 3 days ago!) at a young age and all he says is Destiny is a reskinned Halo probably to mess around with me since Halo was the first game he taught me to play when I was 4 and beat it when I was 5 (with some help) so I'm a huge Bungie fan and when I grew up and got my own many bought the rest of the Halos when I was 14 (Right before Reach came out). Him and I pass the controller back and forth playing Battlefield a lot it causes some great bonding and a great relationship.

Dude! I'm also 38 and a female gamer. People look at me so strange when they find out that I game. I hate when they ask the dreaded question.. "So what do you like to do when you're off of work?" I cringe knowing what they are gonna say. lol But I still graciously answer and if they have something negative to say I tell them, "Well I could be going to the bar and getting drunk and whoring myself out like most of you civilians (that's what I call non gamers)." Then they shut up and leave me alone :)

                      • Only 35 here, but I feel your pain. First noticed when Guns 'n Roses showed up on classic rock stations. Then, Zelda, Mega Man, Metal Gear, Castlevania all turned 25 themselves! ( that was even a couple years ago maybe?) Now I'm trying to justify the early games to my son, it's crazy.( we agree in Ocarina as the best Zelda, thankfully.) it's ... Inconceivable.. That's what it is.

                        • 42 here. My gaming schedule was seriously curtailed after I got married, on account of my wife constantly wanting to engage in some bizarre ritual called "talking". She doesn't like games that go on for more than, say 2-3 minutes at a time (which pretty much limits her choices to Mario Kart). Since my son came along, her focus has shifted to "bonding" with him so that he doesn't resent us later on. I just don't have the heart to tell her that it's going to happen anyway, but I figure I'll have a better chance at maintaining a relationship if I let him game with me. Granted, he's only 1 at this point, so he's more interested in the controller's aerodynamic properties, the noise it makes when smacked against various surfaces, and how it tastes... But eventually, I figure we'll be able to commiserate over a game of Halo 14 about how "Mom just doesn't get it...".
