We haven't even heard Bungie's side of the story. What Bungie did is extremely drastic, and I'm suspecting that there's something more at work here than grudges or the usual malarkey, perhaps something of O'Donnell's doing. Just because Bungie had employed him longer than most doesn't make him some kind of god immune to the judgment and punishment of his superiors.

If he bought shares with the company early on, which he did, he is entitled to those shares, firing him and taking his shares in the company is extremely drastic and doesn't seem warranted unless he was embezzling funds or something.
