Destiny has no private matches at all. Proof provided by this youtube video above, go to 1:15:00 he says private matches aren't in the game and there aren't clan battles either.
This company would be literally stupid to not add this.
How will clans work without custom games?
How will friends play against eachother?
How will any tournament exist?
How will people train for matchmaking?
How will 1v1s be possible?
Honestly without custom games this game is pretty dead, there will be no competitive scene at all because there won't be any chances to prove it. I've played Halo for years to know that custom games are something I do every day and is very important. While this isn't Halo, it's important.
Desired custom game options: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/68034408/0/0
Edit: Stop attacking a straw man and don't put words in my mouth based on what you assume. I bring up valid points. While you may not want a competitive scene in Destiny, it should be there. I don't think Bungie hired a competitive lead and said they would take steps towards making competitive gameplay for nothing. There is a ridiculous amount of narcissistic replies saying how they're thankful they don't have to deal with "competitive players" ruining their game. This is so pathetic.
train for matchmaking
Wait, do people actually train for matchmaking?
-
Should already be in it...
-
Sad you think a game needs MLG to actually be a good and fun game same on you people now a days only think a game is good if you can make money from it now I kinda hope they dnt just for this
-
Define "competitive pvp", without using the word "competitive" more than once.
-
Definitely something very important in the game for not just the competitive scene. People use it to train others, to practices movement, and not only that sometimes you have a party full of people who just cant jump into.
-
Yeah, I want to play Fault, Crossroad and Desert Glory oh and Killing Field.

If you spend the majority of your time over pvp and such, then your missing the point of destiny. This game will be great without all these so called "needed" pvp aspects, as the game is down right fun.

MLG has already confirmed that they are adopting Destiny as an arena. This most likely means that there will in fact be the possibility for private matches. http://gamebattles.majorleaguegaming.com/news/2373-Destiny-Arena-Launch

Edited by Baconators Live: 8/15/2014 2:50:52 AMYes they would miss out on alot of money if they didnt add custom games. I think one of, if not their top goal is to make money off of their hard work and time invested! I think the game will survive without custom games, cause of the open world side of it. It just wont become legend like they want it to be without the competitive side of it. This is just one Destiny fans point of view. : )

Agreed. If the game wants to rival cod, it is a MUST! I'm not expecting anything close to the abilities for customs in halo (facilitated mostly by forge) but would like to see the basics. If this actually happens many competitive and semi competitive players I am sure will enjoy the ability to play only with friends under your terms.
-
No clue just got to hope and pray they have private matches otherwise this game will loose some major appeal.
-
I actually agree with you here. I mean how will my top league dominate if I cant take down other top leagues?
-
It could completely be added after release.
-
I won't ever play the PvP.
-
Clans make me laugh. They plan, practice, strategize, form silly hierarchies, and have private meetings but still lose to me and my friends who just play to have fun. Finally anyone that challenges someone to a 1v1 is a 12yo douchebag.
-
Why do you assume Destiny is about "competitive gaming"? I do not mean to ask you that in an antagonistic manner. I am a PvP guy, I totally get your post, but I am just wondering why you think this game is geared toward competitive anything. Over 99 percent of the Destiny player base did not play more than 5 games in the Crucible. If you want proof, I can point out the numbers off Destiny Tracker tomorrow.

Edited by Nemesis: 8/15/2014 4:10:17 AMI agree custom matches would be awesome all those good times with bean swords only in halo 3 Edit: or energy swords i mean those good times are a long ways off
-
Edited by Edgar Grim: 8/15/2014 6:23:10 AMI think the main point to keep in mind is that bungie has stated their intent to roll with the requests and needs of the community. If there is a reasonable demand for private matchmaking then they should add it. Of course we haven't seen the whole game yet so they might even already have it.
-
I wondered about this. I'm used to being able to setup custom matches with just my friends or invited clan members or poturtle wars or whatever. How does this get settled without private matches?
-
Did you see any of the footage from any of the game conferences that have happened? They were doing stage demos of PvP and always had 12 Playstations hooked up together and those people on stage played each other. There obviously must be some sort of way to do what you're asking.
