"They're all the same!" *proceeds to list out a sampling of the differences between classes* I giggled a little bit.

Did you really miss my point, or are you being intellectually dishonest? I love your name, by the way. Bold!

  • Well, it depends. My only experience with RPGs is Final Fantasy way back in the day, and Skyrim recently. So I don't have a frame of reference regarding class differences in WoW or MMOs. If your argument is the classes are all fundamentally the same, I'd argue otherwise. Even at the lower levels, the abilities had subtle enough differences in the beta to influence player behavior. The gear didn't translate to differences in player traits, but again, that was pretty low level stuff. I'll wait to see what higher level stuff has in store before making that judgment. If your argument is the classes aren't nearly as diverse as the classes of MMORPGs, well that argument is well above my nerd level.

  • Yup, my argument is the latter. My issue is with comparisons to MMOs. I definitely agree that the class distinctions warrant different playstyles and clutch - almost emergency - roles for raid fireteams.

  • Okay. I think that definitely falls into the bucket that just about everyone is having a hard time classifying this game. People from shooter backgrounds are having trouble reconciling the effect of RPG character development impacts on shoot things --> things die. People from RPG backgrounds are having trouble justifying why some things are watered down from an RPG perspective to accommodate a clean shooter experience.

  • I guess you're right. For me, this is my ideal game type, and the marriage of my favorite genres!

  • Same here. If they can nail the story, this will be the only game that can be equal footing with Halo to me.
