I think everyone is ignoring something about the endgame content...

I think everyone has latched on to one thing that was said in the article done by IGN. So you can't have matchmaking for raids. Has that made you so mad that you missed everything else? The article/video mentions several other things. For example, nightfall missions. I haven't seen a single post on the forums about the nightfall missions. Are they strikes? Easier raids? They sound interesting and even more important are updated daily and weekly. Daily story chapters were mentioned in the video as well. Worried about a short story campaign? Well you might not need to. (If they turn into Spartan Ops, then I will be very disappointed) The point is that there is so much more to this game than we previously thought. We, at least I, haven't heard anything about nightfall or daily story missions. Bungie has also made it clear that this game will be continuously supported with more than just updated challenges and bounties. All of you people are complaining about one thing, possibly big or little depending on who you are, and are ignoring so many good things. So before you cancel your preorder at least look at the whole picture. I'm just in need of some sanity on these forums. So please share your ideas on what raids, nightfall missions, and daily story chapters could possibly contain. (preferably without any whining and complaining, you people are older than that.) tl;dr There's more to the video than no matchmaking for raids. Pay attention and you might see something you like.

    • Nightfall missions are just Strikes that are put to a significantly higher degree of difficulty, probably yielding better loot that are only obtained through these time-sensitive missions.

      • I've been really interested in the limited-time aspects of the game. I can't decide if the 'daily story chapters' will actually be story content that only makes sense after you've beaten the core game story missions, or if it'll be random offshoots of the story, like that Breaking Bad episode about the fly instead of... well, every other Breaking Bad episode. I'd be interested in either. I want a better grasp of the lore of Destiny, and I'm betting those missions will provide that. I'm sort of guessing that the Nightfall missions are like special strikes, but with a cooler name. I paid attention, and I enjoyed most of it, I'm just kind of dismayed by the idea of a game that makes it hard to meet people requiring you to have met people to enjoy content. Am I allowed to be disappointed?

          I think the lack of matchmaking will be a good thing. I think I am pretty good at the game and I am a good strategist, I don't want to get bogged down by weak links. I like a challenge, I played and beat the strike mission at level 4 with a crap gun with my second character on the level 8 version, but that is a cheap and annoying way to increase the difficulty. Also, I do not want to be a burden upon someone who is significantly better than me. I'd rather hand pick a team of people of my skill level, who show themselves to be quick thinking and a compliment to my play style. I also prefer to play with people who don't use mics, and if I was matched with strangers, I could not guarantee that people would not use mics during gameplay or understand the nonverbal communication system I developed playing the beta. I am happy with this news, it allows me to play it my way, only with people I choose to play with, and with well thought out preparation. These are the peak missions of the game, the biggest of the big and the toughest of the tough. They are not meant to be fumbled into with strangers. They should get the respect and preparation they are meant to have.

              "There might be a buffer and your damage will be nerfed" Thanks for making me pay attention to details. I QUIT. [spoiler]I do like that inmost light helmet thinger and only slightly glad that they decided against matchmaking. Though at the same time I wish they'd add it on the side so if you and your friends have conflicting schedules you can still get it done with others who are in the same situation. I just hope there's no sort of ridiculous lockout..I rather have it on the side than not at all. Seeing how there's no loot fighting or such. [/spoiler] [spoiler]I'd like there to be some sort of rating system for Guardians. Or Commendation system and incentive to utilize it.. Maybe something like highest commendation Guardian is placed as Fireteam Leader or such...? Blabbering! HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!![/spoiler]

                    • Except for the Raid, all of them seem like they will be nothing more than shoot this or that and collect this or that. Maybe a wee bit of narrative here and there. The whole point of Destiny seems to be to get enough reputation points and marks or what ever else in trade to be able to get the end game gear needed to play the Raid at the end. That is the end all to be all and it seems like we will have to buy the game and play it to understand it. Hope they don't say much more on it and keep a mystery to it. No matter they call the rest of the stuff, it sounds like it will all basically play the same. Basically shoot everything in sight. Get some loot and xp and Vanguard related points and marks to get to the point so you can do the Raid. Sounds like many will need to join a clan to do the Raid. I watched the video and read the print and so far, that is how the whole picture looks to me. Lots and lots of repetitious play against weak AI, more so than I have seen in any other shooter. They change the scenery and might call something a nightfall mission but it's basically it still comes across as shoot anything that is standing in front of you and collect loot. Nothing much else to do. Hoping the daily story missions might be a nice replacement for the Grimoire cards to start filling things in about the overall story for Destiny. That seemed like a good thing.

                        I'm actually quite curious about the "skull with a sword through it" icon shown at 3:25 in that video. I wonder what kind of activity that could be? Explore, Strike, and Mission icons are all present but that one is different. Thoughts?

                        • Nightfall missions sound like infiltrate and gather intel, or take out a target, all in a stealthy fashion. I can't wait to know, as infiltrate without killing a target or getting caught would be a lot of fun.

                          • Nightfall missions are higher level variations of existing strikes. They will be on both a weekly and a daily basis, with varying levels, but always 20+

                            • I am stoked for the nightfall missions and the weekly and dailys. I agree that people seem to be ignoring the awesome end game concepts coming out and are way to focused on the lack of matchmaking.

                            • I feel the same way. The whole matchmaking thing for raids isn't necessary for me because I have several friends to play with already. For others though, it may be different. Can't wait to hear more about all of this.
