Yes. Keep the ammo. Someone said that it is gun specific (not just ammo of special/heavy type). When I switch from a shotgun(with ammo) to a sniper, I have no ammo for the sniper riffle. However, I also noticed that when I switch back to my shotgun, It has now lost it's ammo as well. This makes me think that it is a glitch.
