Forgive my ignorance, but since I don't feel like googling this, if it isn't airborne or water borne, how the Hell is it spreading so quickly? Do you catch it by touching something with the virus on it? If so, that seems just as dangerous...

  • It's spread through bodily fluids,examples: when you sneeze,cough,etc

  • The reason why it spreads so quickly despite being largely a blood borne virus(it can be passed through some other bodily fluids) is that at a certain point the infected person goes into a hemorrhagic shock and begins to bleed out of literally everywhere and will die of blood loss or organ failure and also to in the initial 21 day period where you are beginning to start displaying symptoms they can be mistaken for that of a flu so it doesn't get treated until it's to late or it has been spread

  • Mistrust in the government is the biggest reason. The people there don't have a lot of faith in the government or the foreign agencies there to help contain the outbreak. Thus, they continue practicing their local customs when trying to heal their sick which often involves very close contact with the infected. Since Ebola is spread through close contact, you can see the problem this is causing. And since they really aren't letting the doctors do their thing, the infection is getting out of control.... and since the infection is getting out of control, the locals trust the government and doctors even less. It's a vicious cycle.

  • It's probably down to a mix of unsanitary cooking practices and unprotected sexual intercourse. It's how HIV caught on so quickly. As was also pointed out in the video, faith healing is one of the main culprits too.

  • Faith healing.... Ugh. Now I see how it kills it's victims so quickly. And I didn't watch the video because I am at work, but I did Google it. Apparently it's spread through contact with bodily fluids of an infected thing. Some speculate that bats will be infected and half eat fruit that others will then eat and the virus starts spreading that way. Reusing needles and poor medical conditions help spread it I guess. That crap is crazy. Hope they contain it soon.

  • Faith healing isn't why it kills quickly, we don't have any medical treatment for it so faith healing is really the best option.

  •
Faith healing isn't why it kills quickly, we don't have any medical treatment for it so faith healing is really the best option.
Best option? Shit, faith healing is just using your religion to hide the fact that no medical help can be given and your ass is gonna be dead soon. A lot of people here in the US use faith healing for Cancer, guess who died shortly after when it didn't work?

  • My point is, you could either make the person comfortable, or tell them go -blam!- themselves. Guess which one the atheists want to do?

  • You can make people feel comfortable without religion too buddy. Just because I don't particularly care for religion doesn't mean I'd sit next to a dying person and tell them to -blam!- off because they're gonna die anyways.

  • There are ways to treat the symptoms beyond praying them away. One can at least hydrate the dehydrated, attempt to cool those with fever, etc. I read there is a potential vaccine in the works though. Fingers crossed...

In the case of a filovirus, you're basically comforting someone until they die. Nothing more. And the only vaccine attempt I heard about was done in the early 90s after the Virginia (Or somewhere in the DC area) outbreak and one of the 2 subjects got infected.

  • Wikipedia says there is a newer one in development, but I'm no expert. I'm just not a fan of "faith healing".

  • Neither am I, but there is literally nothing else but hope for a miracle.
