Batman: Arkham City/Origins Impressions.

Since some people are not bright enough to know the difference between IMPRESSIONS, and a REVIEW. Let me state what it is. This in only IMPRESSIONS. So right off the bat lets say this. The new Batman game is essentially just more Arkham City... That is NOT a bad thing AT ALL! With a new team at the helm, and the time between games, can you really expect a massive amount of changes? It would probably take much longer to change gameplay, and all that stuff. So whats that saying? If it aint broke, don't fix it! That has been the philosophy here with this games design, it is more of the same and that is good. Telling "another" origin story, this game starts off after Batman has been on the job for merely two years. With this, you will see many old faces for the "first time" like The Joker, Bane, and Enigma. With it taking place so far back in time, and the old cast retired. Many characters have gotten new voices. Like Troy Baker now being Joker instead of Luke Skywalker. Each one sounds younger, which is fitting. It is not like the new Sam Fisher voice were he is supposed to be older, but sounds like he is in his 30s. So far the writing is fantastic! And i will stop there. Sorry. The open world essentially looks like Arkham City before it became a prison... Well, it really is Arkham City. And the combat is still fantastic, adding new difficulty to the formula and a different kind of boss fight. They present a challenge for every new skill that you learn. They are there for you to master when you face these big guys. Gotta rap this up, class is starting. Just know that Arkham Origins is a great entry into this series that you cannot miss! More of the same, is not always a bad thing.

  • I didn't play any of the other games, but a few things are unattractive to me: 1: The game is overwhelming. It makes you feel Ike you should know what you're doing, instead of actually telling you what to do. For example, the upgrade system. Sure, it's pretty self-explanatory, but it doesn't make much sense to even have one to begin with. And it doesn't really explain everything, you still need to experiment for your self and figure out how things work. Another example of this is the combat. It tells you the basics, like dodging and countering, but to really get good, you need to read and practice all the combos in the pause menu. Boring, I know. 2: The combat feels unresponsive and weird. This may be because I'm used to The Amazing Spider-man's combat (which is essentially, whenever spider-sense tingles, prey Y/Triangle to counter) and that Arkham Origins requires you to time your counters, but it still feels weird regardless. 3: Lack of open world gameplay with other characters. Some one tell my why we couldn't get a non-canon costume for Nightwing? Or Robin, or Deathstroke? The DLC costumes suck ass IMO. Overall, I haven't gotten very far (I just defeated Deathstroke (which was such a bullshit battle to begin with)) and I sort of enjoy the game, but I have to force myself to play it.
