  • that sucks. try resetting your xbox, then clearing the cache. Go to the system blade and then select memory. Press Y on the HD symbol and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. Once you do this a messsage will appear saying: Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices? Go try it and come back.

  • Same here, with the copy in my Legendary Edition I got this morning. I'm just trying to start a campaign / Solo game. It goes off to do it's thing, then gives back a bloody great "FAILED TO START", followed by an exclamation mark, and "Game Failed to Start". Press (A) to go past this and the status screen says something like "Players failed to load content". The progress bar underneath dances between 1%, 2%, 29%, then back to 1% again. I'm completely unable to play and I'm really, really disappointed as a loyal Halo fan. "Finish the Fight"? A chance to bloody start it in the first place would be nice.

  • I'm having the same problem too. I'm on the last level of the campaign which makes it even worse because I can't beat it. Clearing the cache didn't work, so I don't know what else to do.

  • As an update here, I got desperate last night and formatted the 360 HD. and recovered my Gamer profile onto the machine from clean. Made absolutely no difference, I still have the problem. Just thought I'd mention this to spare anyone else trying the same. Of course, for the record, my Xbox is always up-to-date with the latest updates from Live. We aren't alone - Google around and there are an awful lot of people with this problem. Many of whom have already taken their discs back to where they were purchased for an exchange, only to find the same issue. Again. So whether this is a bad media batch issue, or a software problem, I don't know. All I do know is that I'm SO disappointed after counting the days down, to finally go to bed at 1.30AM having spent the evening trying to get game to even start. At the moment though, this issue has not been officially recognised by Microsoft or Bungie but there clearly is a problem here.

  • I had the same issue and thought it was my internet connection but.... I have a XSATA device between my harddisk and console. I removed that device and connected the harddisk directly to the XBOX like normal. Then the game loads without problems. So they might have added some check or something and you must have a harddisk connected to your XBOX 360. Hope this helps.

  • I have the same problem! Phoned Microsoft and some Indian woman just told me to go on the microsoft website for the address to send my disc to. I have not got any special edition version just the regular one and it's not scratched. I even told her that there are loads of us with this problem. She was no help and kept calling it a Dvd! I hope someone has an answer soon. I have a feeling by what i have read online that if i exchange my disc it will just happen again anyway so i think i will just get a refund. It's a bleedin joke. Si (in the uk)

  • Nope, mine was blockbuster, But if you really want to play, take your harddrive out, and it works, but obviously you cant save, but changing to discs wont work

  • Sorry play JE, you are wrong, changing disks DID work for me. Also even when i removed my hard drive with the first disk, i couldnt play. Get your disks changed, what do you have to lose?

  • But it couldnt be my disc, Could it?, I mean if it works without my harddrive it must be a software issue, also ive been on the Official 360 Forums and many people have changed the discs to no help

  • This is all so frustrating....I must admit, the fact that it works without your hard drive does rather suggest a software bug. But why would it manifest itself on some 360 systems and not others if this were the case? It really is confusing. I thought I left this nonsense behind when I switched to console gaming. Now I just don't know what to do.

  • As an update here, I've had enough so I called support who have given me a reference number and told me to send the disk in for replacement. The irony is, I only live just down the road from the UK replacement centre but I'll probably have to wait two weeks like everyone else :)

  • I have the same problem with my copy, which I got from Blockbuster. I will do an exchange and see if that helps. If not, then I'll just get a different game. Shame that such a good title has such a stupid problem. You would think a company working so closely with Microsoft could get a game that plays to everyone, its not like a PC game where all the hardware could be completely different!

  • Yup. I had this problem - "failed to start game", "failed to load content" - my copy from Blockbuster as well. Cleared the cache with no improvement. Replaced it today; they changed it without question, even though it ran in their machine. Replacement failed the same way. Removed the HDD. It got further, but failed with a "could not read disk" error after the halo completed. Swapped disc with my mate - my disc works fine in his 360, his disc works fine in mine. For ref, he got his from Blockbuster as well, but a different part of the country. Seems a bit weird, but I guess it's some sort of manuf-tolerance-meets-cheat-protection problem. All rather annoying, mind... D.

  • Good to know that I wasnt the only one to have problems with my XSATA... I spent 2 hours troubleshooting that crap.
