Lack of Proper Moderation

I have been reading the posts at this forum for several months, finally deciding to join it yesterday to add some intellect to the collective blah that seems so abundant around here. So many offenses of one-word posts, flaming, etc. It doesn't really seem proper... I may be a newbie to these forums, but not to forums in general. Every other well-developed forum that I've been to (including my own) has rather strictly enforced a group of simple rules that benefit every decent member. What is the point in making a post that simply uses one or two words to answer question or statement without even elaborating on the reason(s) why you think so? (I.E. "No, that's wrong.") Even worse is the most foul one-word post. That is just..spam really. I believe that a good deal more of an effort needs to be made to remedy these problems, as well as others that I haven't mentioned. I''m absolutely sure that somebody here will use do one of the things I mentioned in this thread as a reply.. Some will agree, others will not. What a strange first thread... • Yup. I feel your pain and trust me, we are all aware of the condition our forums are in at the moment. On one hand, there are things we can do (and are working on) to improve things - adding more moderators, empowering existing moderators with better tools, implementing new measures to block/ban offendors, etc.. This stuff is all being worked on but unfortunately won't happen over night. On the other hand - some of these problems will never go away. With an audience as large as ours (which is growing by the day), we will ALWAYS have people coming around who will never read the rules and whose only mission in life is to be a jerk. We can blacklist them until they make new accounts, and then we can try other measures until they find a way around them - but inevitably we'll always be chasing them and they'll find ways to keep being asses. Our three moderators (plus Frankie, Acrhonos and myself) have a lot of work cut out for us - the amount of activity on these forums is staggering. Yes, I am adding more people but I don't just want to throw more bodies at the problem until we have some solid plans to make sure we're doing it right. LUCKILY the vast majority of our members here are great people who have great things to contribute to our site. Until we get things improved on this end, I honestly think the best thing we can do is to ignore the bull-blam!-, stop encouraging them and playing into their traps (DON'T EVEN RESPOND). We can also all tone down our constant complaints and comments about how we're superior to all the new members - so someone doesn't have quite as an intelligent response as you do, or someone doesn't know as much about a particular subject or god forbid missed the earlier thread that answered their question (it's not like they can search or anything) - let's cut some slack around here. Animosity breads animosity. We should all chill a little and remember we're here to have fun and hang out. The Bungie.net team and our moderators will do the best we can to solve these problems as they arise and we appreciate your help in identifying problematic posts and users. This issue has been beat to death and we will continue to work on it. Thanks for supporting us and our site, and for now, let's just have some fun and move on. =)
