Let's make this thread more useful. I'm banned from Waypoint and 343 community forums for being a bit to animated in my posts. So I need help to get a point across to some of the more recent threads on Waypoint specifically. Maybe the point can stick to you as well. The posts I'm referring to is the people who are against the new join-in-progress feature. https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postst124726_So-joining-in-game-is-in-the-game.aspx I get a weird spaces being inserted into that link. You'll notice it 'in' there I'm sure. So... the point. It's understandable that people might get frustrated at the thought of joining a losing game in progress. So here is the Solution. *If you join a game in progress your W/L stat does not update. *You will however gain any K/D, Assists, Flag Captures, etc. *The only way to improve the W/L Stat is to be in the game from Lobby to Finish. *The ONLY way to rank up is to get the W/L stat to update. *Quitting out of a game in which you were present during the lobby will incure a loss. This accomplishes something important. People will want to play a game from Lobby to Finish. It gives incentive to people to stick it out if they want to rank up at all. It also gives people who join games in progress the incentive to stay in a lobby "after a game" instead of immediately leaving to find another to join in progress. People joining games in progress all the time will not rank up. At least that's my opinion on how it should be handled. This is as polite as I get. Whoever feels like it can take full credit for the idea over on waypoint. Now that I'm done being polite. I know what your going to say. It's a new form of deranking right? Join games in progress all the time and you won't ever rank up... AWESOME!!! MY PRO'NESS CAN RAG ON NOOBS ALL DAY LONG!!! ARRRGHH!! But that's just it... it works because. That player will be joining losing games in progress. A place where they are actually NEEDED! If they are so badass, they should be able to turn that game into something interesting. And if they join a losing game in progress and actually turn it around. EVEN BETTER! And if you ask me, the entire Story of Master Chief involves him joining a losing game in progress and turning it around. So get used to it. I also see another fault in my idea that has already plugged itself. What if I start a game from the Lobby, but my team quits on me and I get a bunch of trolls who purposely make me lose? Well, you would have lost anyway. At the most, all that happened is, they might have put a small dent in your K/D ratio for that match. But ultimately, regardless your team quit because, you were losing. Which means the "new players" trolling you are having no adverse affect on your W/L ratio. It's better than allowing a game to persists at a 4v1 ratio. In which either side could be considered to be at an advantage for their own specific reasons. TL:DR Join-in-progress can actually be leveraged as a powerful tool to keep people in games in more ways than you may be immediately aware of. That is assuming that W/L is going to be the major deciding factor on ranks. That's also assuming that Ranked matches will have the feature. There is however one MAJOR FLAW in the join-in-progress with ranks feature. Having a friend of the enemy team joining your team because a spot opened up. So, you'll need to stress to 343 that they should disallow friends from joining a game in progress unless the open spot is on the same team as the players in question. This cannot be stressed enough. Out of everything surrounding join-in-progress. Make sure they get this one right. Let me rephrase that last paragraph from a perspective the rest of you will understand. When I go to join one of my friends, via join in progress. DO NOT PUT ME ON THE OPPOSITE TEAM!. If the opposite team is the only option then don't give the option. [Edited on 10.25.2012 1:39 PM PDT]
