343/ Halo 4

Now that we have decent information on Halo 4 and what 343 has been doing to the game, Do you think overall has 343 improved Halo or ruined it? In my opinion, There are things i LOVE about what they've did and things im not so sure about. The campaign looks absolutely stunning, I just hope they follow up on the Halo story right. Because as i long term Halo fan, I want everything to be perfect about the story! And as far as multi-player goes, From what ive seen it looks amazing, Im sure it will do fine! What about you guys? ~OB666

 •
Posted by: Sandtrap The data drops made it worse. Originally, Bungie intended Reach to be a stand alone game, and made it in such a manner that everything was left to interpretation. Then the data drops come out with this big "Reach was a plan all along" BS that shoehorned it into the canon and stomped all over the novels again.
I disagree. I don't think there was anything about Reach left to interpretation, it was a clumsy effort to shoehorn in nostalgic references to form some kind of 'story' in the last 30 minutes of the game to tie-in with Halo CE. The DDs cleared up most of the discrepancies the game presented, but yes it too was rather clumsy. I think this whole Reach business needs to be forgotten and set aside really, it's representative of a complete bastardisation of an otherwise good story, and at the very least 343i tried to plug the holes.
Then Traviss goes on her canon crushing crusade because she didn't read into the Halo Bible and just changed characters up on a whim.
This I definitely can agree with, for Glasslands anyway. Her fact-file style of writing just doesn't work for me, especially when she starts with the completely one-sided points of view towards characters like Halsey who gets utterly demonised and is even compared to Doctor Mengele. Thankfully, she eases off this in The Thursday War and actually gets a much better story going. She just presents the Elites as being utterly stupid and amazingly gets 'Telcam to blame humanity for giving the Brutes the idea of using bombs... which just didn't make sense.
MAJOR SPOILERS FOR HALO: THE THURSDAY WAR Jul discovers that his wife Raia and best friend Forze were killed when the Arbiter gave the go-ahead for the Infinity to MAC strike the city of Ontom on Sanghelios to put an end to the Brute rebellion (setting the stage for The Return in Halo: Evolutions).
... One of us is remembering facts wrong. I recall Raia and Forze being killed directly by the Arbiter's ships when their small fleet couldn't get to the jump point in time; they were the only one of 4 ships that got destroyed. The Infinity MAC'd the army laying seige to the Arbiter's city, not Ontom.
Yeah, you're right I just checked again. I got those bits mixed up. [Edited on 10.06.2012 12:28 PM PDT]
