The idea of change is not always good, you don't ever have to get to implication in the final product to see that.
His definition is a bit weird. I'm seeing it like: given a copy paste sequel that is already good compared to a change to the gameplay that is also good, people are going to like the change better because it is fresh, which I think we can all agree with.
So I agree with both of you.
This is a no brainer.
But how he presents his side has been idiotic so far.
Change itself, just the "idea" of it, is not inherently good, which is what he has been saying.
The idea for the most part is always good, it is implication that is causes it to be bad. Many things in Goverment prove that statement to be true, a modern example was NAFTA good in theory not in implication.
