I posted in a few decent threads here this weekend, but they were few and far in between.
What makes a thread decent to me is something that warrants discussion, and likely has not already been discussed to death in cloned or repeat topics. Now, that is of course totally subjective, and that's just me. Even I would not likely stick to such a strict yet vague axiom for deciding what's worth discussing and what's not. Its one of those "you know it when you see it" things.
I can't think of a single topic that's allowed here that fits that. (I guess that's where the opinion part comes in)

A few years ago, this forum was just as stupid. The vast majority of the topics were inane and worthless, just like today. The difference is; there are so many more people here now. The problem we get from that is; many of the new people see what the existing morons are already doing, and emulate them. Back then, when new people would come along and want to get in on the discussion, they would have a decent chance at seeing how one should act on these boards. Because there are so many people posting here now, 'good' topics are pushed off the front page by the above lamented bad topics very quickly and easily now. Simply hoping that some time here and/or a few warnings/bans will knock them to their senses won't work anymore. There are simply too many people doing what they are not supposed to be doing for the mods to deal with it using the old methods. Add to that all the new people here every day who are trying to get into their own place in this community, and seeing it done wrong, and I think you have a massive problem.
I think it probably could have been dealt with better if there was more (or maybe better) moderation from the get go. It seems like for the past year the mods have just given up on this forum and now they're blaming us for something that they should have been preventing the entire time.

Being new here is not a bad thing. I personally want as many members as we can handle, but those members must be shown what's acceptable and what's not. The old methods don't work anymore, because there is not real way to control this forums throttle anymore.
What are the mods going to be doing different? Actually enforcing the rules and moderating? Finally addressing the problems that they should have been doing in the first place? Why didn't they do that when it could have helped? And I highly doubt achronos would ever get rid of this forum.

I'll tell you one thing: If they shut down the Flood, their site will probably lose a lot of hits. Most will just migrate to an off-site, or storm other forums, posting the same way. I know it's out of hand, but I don't think this is the way to deal with it. If I were Archanos, I'd just stop moderating the Flood, but then again, I'm not the site manager.
Less moderation is what we've been getting, and it hasn't turned out so well.
