If someone posts in the wrong forum...
Are we expected to completely avoid threads posted in the wrong forum, or should we post to inform the OP of their error and point them in the right direction? PM them?
And should we, most likely in the same post, provide them with an answer to a question they might have asked (particularly if it's a question that can be easily answered)?
Yes, let the OP know if you are COMPLETELY CERTAIN it is in the wrong forum and you know which forum to point the OP to.
No, don't satisfy the OP's discussion. Wait for the next thread and don't cause a chain reaction of replies. Things are a little less relaxed in this forum because the regulars are so knowledgable. Sometimes we answer questions even if they're in the wrong forum but we let the OP know that it is in the wrong forum.
If we suspect a troll thread...
Should we report threads that simply seem like they might be trolls (has potential to invoke flaming, etc.), or should the report button be reserved for more definite circumstances and/or clear violations of the Forum Rules.
Should we avoid posting in these threads that have potential to be trolls, even if there is a possibility that it is a serious post and can be discussed in a civil manner. Should we just avoid them altogether?
Definitely set a clear guideline for yourself, after reading the CoC and Forum Rules, that outlines when you will report and move on. Always avoid posting threads that seem to break rules.
