I'm going to leave this here as a helpful guide for our newer members. It is a quick and simple acronym you can use for when you want to start a new thread.
That acronym is D.R.A.G.O.N.S.
Here is the breakdown,

D - Determine your topic
Know what you want to write about. Don't create a topic that you're ill informed about or have no sources for. The forums know when you don't know what you're talking about, and they will try and tear you apart for it.

R - Research the recent topics
Don't be the tool that makes the second or third thread about a topic. Repeat threads make people rage. Take a few seconds and look to see if your topic isn't already on the first 2 or 3 pages.

A - Appropriate forum
One the first two steps are finished, make sure you put it in the right place. Off topic threads in a forum get locked fast.

G - Grammar
Use complete sentences. Know the differences between your and you're. Make your post flow.
This will make a huge difference, trust me.

O - Open the spellchecker
Spelling is just important as grammar. Don't use leek speak, use caps appropriately, and fix your errors if you notice them. Also remember that the spellchecker won't catch it all, so proof read!

N - Never break the rules
Simple enough! Learn them and love them.

S - Start the thread!
If all of the above are satisfied, then start your thread!

I like this. Let's make it a post in the section with the rules at the top. That way all new members would read it (hopefully). Or at least make it a hot-topic on the sidebar.
-
I like the 'look at the rules bit'

Bobcast, don't you know this joke is old and played-out? Our super srs members are going to come in here and tell you how you're cramming this down their throats!
Posted by: bobcast Asking a question isn't frowned upon as long as the question something like, "Can ducks drive dump trucks?" I think it'll be ok.
-blam!- you, I want to know.
Posted by: Scapegoat413 Dorgarns.
LMFAO! Snagrod!!!! OP: Nice work. But we'll see other members attempting to replicate this. :\ [Edited on 12.10.2012 6:47 AM PST]
Posted by: Spartan1065 Where is the part of the acronym that directs their moms in my direction?
If you run the acronym backwards it says SNOGard. That might be a subtle reference if you want to lean that way.
-
I'd love to see people getting checked for their posts by the moderators for spelling and grammar. Would make the forums much more mature and organised.
-
Great! Now all we need to do is make it an automated message for new users. Pinning the thread isn't as useful as people think considering that a lot of new users don't even look at the pinned threads. [Edited on 12.10.2012 6:16 AM PST]

This is a great post and all, but I noticed a problem. It is not pinned to the side or to the top. Someone do that right away, or this guide isn't as useful as it could be.

On the marketing side of things, this would make a cool t-shirt. D.R.A.G.O.N.S. www.bungie.net Of course with the proper graphics etc... ~Delta
