Your Respect for Bungie

How much respect do you have Bungie as a game developer? Has it changed over time? If so, what events have affected your respect towards Bungie and why?
For me, I have respect for Bungie. They could have played it safe by continuing their development of the Halo franchise, however, they did not. Bungie instead are creating a whole new world for us to explore; a new game, that if it lives up to our expectations and the gaming communities predictions, could enter us into the next big gaming 'thing'.
My respect for Bungie definitely lessened since Halo: Reach. I found its multiplayer fun (for the most part), however, I was disappointed in how they unequivocally took a [b]dump[/b] on the Halo canon and just created a boring campaign with [i]terrible[/i] characters and character development. Please don't even get me started on how the let down the Halo community with how they ignored us post-launch.
Ultimately, I have a lot of respect for Bungie. Despite their failings with Halo: Reach (my opinion, bros), I have a new restored sense of respect in them due to Destiny.

I clicked on this thinking it was going to be something positive, or at least semi-hopeful, then I read I giant paragraph complaining about Reach. you need to remember that bungie doesn't have microsoft breathing down their backs anymore.

I guess if you come to community forums, you definitely have some level of respect for Bungie. I might lose a bit of respect for Bungie if they have seriously considered revealing something they've put their heart and soul into at something as repulsive as the VGA. But then again what do I know about marketing a product to the lowest common denominator. [Edited on 11.29.2012 10:07 AM PST]

[/quote][/quote] Actually, I'm pretty sure that Microsoft agreed to keep funding them as long as they finished ODST and Reach. They were independent by 07, but they still needed funding. Then the contract with Activision came along and the Halo mantle was passed onto 343. TL;DR: I have a burning passionate respect for Bungie as both people and game developers, and not sure if OP knows what they speak of.

That only concerns one of my reasons, however. Plus, as they were independent, they could have came out and outright stated why they couldn't support the community in Halo: Reach anymore. Bungie [b]created[/b] the Halo universe and at that time, they had no idea it would be a 10+ year franchise. They worked with 343 on Reach and decided to tweak the canon a bit. Big deal! The ending of Reach was AWESOME and brought the franchise full circle. Go buy a Star Wars or Star Trek book at Barnes & Noble. 99% are NOT canon. However, in the Halo universe [b]EVERYTHING[/b] counts (except for the occasional tweak). And Frankie has said they've set the universe up now to have stories to tell from various angles for a long time to come. So stop blaming Bungie for changing the canon that THEY CREATED a tiny bit. Oh, and they've learned a lot since then and have likely setup the Destiny universe to not need many canon changes.

I'm guessing a lot of people lost some respect for them given how the last Bungie Halo installment was treated (not just talking about the cannon), but I think they can be respected for creating interesting new universes. Let's just hope Destiny ends with a bang when they decide to move on. That is considering it begins with one. I think Bungie can do it. I'll always respect them for creating the Halo universe. They made the canon, so argument kind of invalid.

I love Bungie as a game developer. They are certainly in my top 3 of best game developers ever.
