A trend in all the main forums is that original threads tend to get buried under constant reposts asking the same questions over and over again. Do you think something should be done about this? Should reposted threads be locked, or are they a sign that the community just has its mind on the same issues and wants to keep bringing them up for discussion?
-
Depends on what topic and how often its re-posted. Every forum on this site gets alot of repeat threads. In the Flood its Halo 4. Thats forgivable. In the community forum its often even more redundant BS. Those threads should be locked with a link to a relevant thread that was previously posted.
-
I try to avoid making redundant threads. If its at least somewhat interesting i tend to overlook its lack of originality.
-
I don't really think they can be helped so I see no reason to take action against them. They're gonna happen, I think we can all accept that. [Edited on 10.09.2012 10:47 PM PDT]

I've posted two threads recently that were extremely similar to another user's thread that he had already posted within the past two weeks. The other users' threads were just buried and gone so I never saw them. It's part of forums. I think the real question here is to find better ways to signal topics or cultivate current conversations than a constantly rotating forum of posts by recent activity and post date.
-
This thread is a repost.
-
Repeat Threads still lead to new conversations, I only get annoyed when people post without checking the first 10 or so pages.
-
Reposts don't actually bother me all that much. I just take it as a sign that a topic is popular. I can understand someone being upset if their posts was sent off the front page by other threads on the same topic. I just don't if it would be fair to lock a thread or ban a member because it was posted a couple of minutes after a previous topic and it became more popular, unless the member was doing it on purpose for some weird reason.
-
It's a non-issue.
Posted by: Saint of Taint of a repost
Posted by: Breadisgood91 This thread is a repost.

Of another repost.... damn
-
Well we could start by making the search bar actually work, and making it easier to use. It doesn't matter what you're looking for, that search bar will get you nothing.
-
If anyone ever posts a topic that has been posted before, they should be permabanned. No excuses, no exceptions!
-
Pretty much everything is a repost.
Posted by: Breadisgood91 This thread is a repost.
I was waiting for someone to say this.
-
No. I'm not looking through ever thread to see if it's been made. People should get over it. If it's a parody. Go ahead and lock it. If it's still on the front page lock the new thread.

Whenever you sign up for bungie.net you should receive a pair of complimentary blinders so you can turn your head and pretend you didn't see that repost thread. Alternatively, you can direct the person to a thread where the question has been answered or where discussion is currently being held. Or you can answer the person.

If they are asking the same questions...create a FAQ?

Every now and then we get some new kids in here that just want to ask a simple question. It's much easier to just answer it and have the thread locked than go through a giant backlog of Every Question Ever Answered And The Thread It Was In and link to that. Discussions are a bit different. Often there may be new ideas to bring to the table, and if someone has done that then it's all good. In the end it's up to the mods to decide if the repost thread is going anywhere and whether it should be locked.
Posted by: Thrasher Fan If they are asking the same questions...create a FAQ?
I actually think this is a good idea. When people notice that a topic is being discussed a lot, they could make a thread encouraging people to ask questions about a certain topic and update the OP with answers. If lots of people were to save it, it'd become a pinned topic, and even if that didn't happen, people could link to it whenever the topic comes up. I know there are a couple of people here who seem to have an endless supply of links to past threads for use during discussions.

It's one of the most successful threads on Bnet and very rarely do you see title threads outside of that. Even when one is created there's at least one user who links the FAQ.

Nothing. Because there is nothing wrong with it.

Well yesterday Foman closed repost-threads about that skydiving bloke. So something is done about it. Unless you mean reposts about forum title questions, and the like.
