Do "carpet bans" actually exist?
I see people talking about them. Do the mods every actually ban everyone in a thread?

Yeah I once got banned for posting in a thread where everyone was posting pornographic, (I don't know if that word is censored, so naughty) pictures of pokemon characters. I did not post a picture, I think I just made a random comment. All banned

There are myths and legends that tell us of ancient times past, when the carpet ban was an ever present threat. Back when men were men and women were Obbie Quiet telling everyone he was a woman. Back when Bungie used to IP ban and there was no spam filter. Those days are past now. They are long gone. I have not carpet banned since 08, which itself was waaaaay after all the crap I mentioned above. They're rare, but technically still on the table. Especially if the mod's username rhymes with pecan or doorman.

I have seen a few troll threads on the Community forum. "HFCS sucks" are the obvious types of trolls. Carpet bans occur when all the users know that the OP will be banned or it is a spam thread and by contributing to it they are bumping it essentially. What happened to the recent thread about the guys Youtube channel being attacked?

If I'm not mistaken, the largest carpet ban was back when we could nest more than five quotes. There was a massive quote pyramid in a 10 or so page thread and almost everyone was banned.

However... the reason people referred to it as the 'GRD' Helmet and thought it was possible to unlock was because of a photoshopped picture of the helmet appearing in a Bungie Employee's armory. Needless to say (again), but the picture was not real as Bungie had absolutely no idea what the helmet was.

And this is why he was good. It was an intelligent, well thought out trolling attempt. When we find out we were trolled, many of us were angry at first at the realization. But then? Then we recognized the brilliance of it and admired/ respected the person for such a well done job. THIS is what trolling used to be. Kids wanted to emulate people like that but most were not intelligent enough to carry it out. That's what started the path to all caps and annoying posts we have today- a lack of intelligence in those that want to be 'cool.' They do exist, and they are ridiculous. This one guy posted a thread about having incest with his sister. I posted the three letter word "wat" and I was banned by Recon for two weeks for "supporting spam". I got messages from others who were banned and the bans lasted for random times. Said thread was quite clearly set up in order to ban a bunch of people at once, because it was not locked until it reached more than a hundred posts.
