I imagine the title says it all, but in case it doesn't: do you think it's possible to remain "just friends" with a former love interest?
Is there always gonna be that awkward tension in the air or has anyone here succeeded at a simple platonic friendship with an ex?
Even if you've never had a girlfriend (or boyfriend) before, just think about someone you once had a big crush on and whether or not you could ever "just be friends" knowing they didn't feel the same way.

A while back I was asked this question. I said yes. ...Have not talked to her since.
-
Yes, just say you want to remain friends and just stay that way.

At least, give it some time if you want to try and be friends - but right after a break up, the last thing you need are constant reminders. Even if you didn't feel the need to, maybe at least for your ex's sake.
If you knew what I did, you wouldn't call it the right thing to do. I basically just went full auto ignore mode like a huge -blam!-, and as such we never got to even talk things over, which is obviously too late now as every party involved has moved on. Bad feelings everywhere as a result.

There is usually always one side that wants to get back together.
Posted by: M_Power Nope. The Friendzone is the 10th Circle of Hell.
No, the 10th circle of Hell is my realm. And nobody is allowed in, aside from those that I approve.
-
I'd still try to grab her ass even if "friends"
-
Friendzone is better than not being friends at all. And no, that isn't beta, it's honest.
-
And so it is written in stone, tho shall feel forever awkward around former love interest.
-
I'm still friends with one of my ex's, and we don't have any problems. Of course, she's the only one with which the relationship didn't end on bad terms.
-
Yes. The issue is people lack maturity in their teen/early 20's. It's not so hard to move on from a former love interest that turned sour. Some people just make it awkward because they can't deal with rejection.
-
Nope. The Friendzone is the 10th Circle of Hell.
-
Wtf why would that be awkward? I hate how awkward is almost mainstream, like wtf
-
With an ex: HAHAHA -blam!- NO -blam!-! With you op: Of coarse we can.
-
After time, sure. Immediately afterwards, not a chance in hell.

If my girlfriend ever dumped me I don't think I'd really want to know her anymore, but she won't so it's okay.

They were in the show "Friends".

No, it would kill me if I had to be with someone that didn't feel the same way.
-
When someone you like says "Let's just be friends." [FRIENDZONED] Then you will have a few days of hell until you don't give a crap about her..
-
I'm friends with someone who had a crush on me. Not awkward at all.
-
Im still very good friends with my ex. Although it doesn't work as we both still have feelings for each other and may end up going back out.
